Lady Smith in .38 SP What do you folks think of this revolver for a new shooter? What is a good price for one with the glass bead front site and wood grips. GF's not afraid of guns and likes the pointability of my Taurus 605. Just thought I'd throw it out there for feedback.

Ain't a thing in the world wrong with a LadySmith. As long as it is in good mechanical condition, it would make an excellent Self Defense weapon, man or woman. As far as the .38 Special, it is not the most screaming of rounds but it surely has been acceptable and as long as you do your part it will perform. There are any number of excellent SD loading. I'm not familiar with your Taurus but if the lady friend is and has fired it some I don't think she will have any problem. Start out with the milder wadcutter or cowboy loads and build up to the +P's. Normally one might start off a new unexperienced shooter with a .22 so that they don't develop a flinch but that requires two guns. You know her better than we do. Cost? Used, probably $300 + to $400 depending condition and locale. The MSRP on a new model 60 LS is $703 probably run you $600 plus tax and background. That gun will handle .357's as well as .38 spl.

+1 to what Pistol Toter said.
I would recommend a set of rubber grips. Wood looks pretty but rubber is more comfortable for a new shooter.

Nice pistol, I have one. Would NOT recommend it for noobs unless they practice A LOT with it and learn how to shoot it before carrying.
