I have a Remington Rolling Block pistol with the following:

On the left side of the reciever(?)(while looking at the gun in front of me, the barrel points to the left) are the folloing words/dates/markings:

REMINGTON'S ILION . N.Y. U.S.A.
PAT MAY 3D NOV 15TH 1864 APRIL 17TH 1866

S

The above S is a block S slightly cantered to the left.

Under the barrel is stamped: L14

Under the grips on the top strap: 3962 3675
Bottom strap: 3962

Nothing on the grips themselves

The barrel is 8.5 inches to the receiver and 9.5 inches were the cartridge would enter.

I don't know what caliber this pistol is...I have owned it for 30 plus years and have never thought about it till I was showing my son my gun collection.

If I had to guess the condition I would say fair to good. It appears the receiver(?) is case hardened...the bluing has like an oily sheen to it. It has slight wear on the lettering, however, all lettering is legible.

The barrel is blued and in good shape, slight wear of bluing at the end of the barrel.

The rolling block and hammer are in great shape and is a natural metal color(?)

I tried my best to describe this piece...now if one of you can help ID what I have and give ballpark value I would appreciate it! Bob

It's going to take pictures.
Remington made Rolling Block pistols for the Navy and the Army in .50 cal rimfire and centerfire, and commercial target pistols in .22, .25, .32, and .44.
Plus any number of military surplus reworked by gunsmiths.
