hey guys I didn't get a holster for my g36 for christmas. I was wondering if the versa maxII is worth the extra $ or if the watch six is just as good, just not as fancy. I also would like to hear from anybody who has the tuckable kydex clip option. thanks for all the feedback!! and have a
merry CHRISTmas!!!

One has the reinforced mouth for reholstering ease, the other does not.

One has the advantage of being a little more concealable due to the lack of that feature as well.

It's will depend on how you feel about reholstering ease. I use the vm2's but I'd be happy with a watch6 anyday.

Not sure on the tuckables. I use the belt loops and prefer them over the other systems, but thats is strictly personal preference as well.

Sparks and co. should be able to answer that when you place the order. Something like 26 weeks out on orders.

Kydex clips are only for the VMII, the Watch Six is a great rig but of the two I'd go with the VMII. My favorite IWB is an Alessi PCH.

It's up to you but Lightning Arms Sports and Top Gun Supply often have VMII's in stock, but at a premium price. You can also check Ebay. Again, they usually go for a premium price but that beats waiting months and months.

What is the benefit of horsehide?

Don't get too impatient. When last I called them for a VMII for my CZ PO-1 (this was late Sept/early Oct), the wait was about 5 months. Just make sure you have a competent gunbelt as well; Milt Sparks makes some fantastic ones of those too.

What is the benefit of horsehide?

From the Milt Sparks website:
What is the difference between cowhide and horsehide?

One of the more notable properties of horsehide is its natural ability to repel moisture. This is due to the dense cell structure of the hide thus limiting its porosity. This natural ability to repel moisture makes it very useful for certain applications, particularly for use inside the waistband.

Unlike with cowhide, horsehides non-porous nature reduces its ability to fully absorb the casing solution during the forming process, making it much more difficult to get good crisp detail of the weapon when molding around the gun. Also for the same reason horsehide tends not to absorb the dye and finishing materials as evenly making it in my opinion, somewhat inferior in that respect to good cowhide.

On the durability issue there has been much BS circulating on the mythical wear characteristics of horsehide. I will not argue that a well made horsehide holster will give you many years and possibly a lifetime of good service, but with proper care a good cowhide holster will last just as long.

Some of our holsters combine the use of both horsehide and cowhide, taking into advantage the desirable attributes of each material. So which material is better?? That is a personal preference issue. Where horsehide is available as an option, the choice is yours.

Personally, my current VMII is cowhide, and it is wearing very well.

Re: the kydex tickable clips for the VM-II . . .

I'd recommend finding someone who has them and trying them out before you spend the extra $$$ for them. The concept sounds good, but doesn't work in practice very well (..for me, at least). The gun prints way too much with a tucked-in shirt over the holster. I had the kydex clips on for about 5 minutes before switching back to the belt loops.

My experiences only - - I'm sure there are others here that swear by the clips. I just recommend you try them before buying.

Never used the Watch Six, but the VM2 is freakin amazing. Place your order, wait for it, and enjoy it when it shows up. In the unlikely event you do not like it, you should be able to sell it pretty quickly, assuming it's for a relatively common gun.

I have both cowhide and horsehide holsters, the horsehide is much more stiff, after years of use my 1911's still "snap" into my leather holster literally with a noticeable clunk when it's seated.

I can turn my VMII upside down by the holster and shake it and the gun will not come out. I can not say this about any of my other cowhide holsters that are open top.

The look of the horsehide is still shiny and pristine, very black and sleek, I also have the sharkskin, It covers the heavily worn places.

I have noticed that my old cowhide holsters tend to soften over time with application of sweat and wear, this is not so on my horsehide. Although now they have a few dings from being tossed around they are great.

Here I'll post a few pics that I have lying around.

on the right side attached to the belt (also a Sparks)

In the very center is the one for my 1911, old pic new holsters are not in there.

and with one of my 1911's also notice the dual IWB mag holder also from Sparks.

The belt is sharkskin

I have both a W6 & a VMII. The W6 is a very stiff holster, and dosen't need reinforcing, drawing and reholstering is very slick. The VMII is cowhide, and much thicker, but still very comfy. The W6 is a bargin, very well made, and wouldn't base your decision on the reinforced mouth, it's a non issue. Both great choices, and the clips are a PITA to use:)

Only about four months to go on my Watch Six. (whistling)

I chose it mostly because of its thinness, as the gun I am getting it for - a S&W 3913 - is delightfully light and slim. (JDGray's photo illustrates the difference well.) I don't need the tuckable feature. And the horsehide should still be sufficiently stiff for most reholstering. Forty bucks less than the VM2 didn't hurt, either, but the lower price was not my primary reason.

I have a VM II for a Colt govt. model, a VM II for an SP-101, and a Watch Six for an HKUSP 45 Compact. I like them all but really like the thin profile of the Watch Six. I agree that the lack of a reinforced mouth on the Watch Six should not be a concern.

I find the Kydex clips worth their weight in gold, during the summer months.

They are designed to be worn with a looser, blousier shirt, and a gray or other colored one will work much better than a white one.

A shirt with a design all around works best, IMNTBHO.
