Anyone Carrying in Colorado?

I've found a couple local shops/ranges that offer CCP classes as well as advanced classes on the more tactical side of things. There is also Gander Mountain and I believe Cabela's/Bass Pro Shops.

Anyway, I'm moving to Arvada in a couple of weeks and was wondering if anybody had good experiences with any class, teacher, or facility specifically.

Mike Hughes is a recently retired Denver Police Lt., and he understands the law very well.

Additionally, he is a respected IPSC competitor, who truly understands pistolwork, unlike many instructors I've seen who are teaching 20 year old technique.

Tom & Joe's in Wheat Ridge is a great little (emphasis on LITTLE) gunshop. He'll order anything you need for a fair price.

I took two CCW courses with Larry Johnson and really thought a lot of them. My wife took them with me and Larry was great with her too. Got my CCW in Douglas County.

Morgan: I'd love to shoot with you sometime after I get situated. I actually live very close to Tom & Joe's in Wheat Ridge and it was my second visit as I drove around aimlessly (mountains are in the west and they don't move, thats convenient).

Larry is a good instructor. One caveat; He has no patience for poor booger hook discipline. He'll only yell at you the first couple times...........

I didn't take his course, but have helped him with a couple of classes and done some of his other events. He still refuses to do a combat rifle course, though:cuss:

I'm carrying up in Summit County.

I spent $65 on my class which was 8 hours, with 2 hours of range time.

Class was taught by the Police Chief in Kremmling, CO. Great class, and lots of good info! Range time was very well spent, we shoot 3 times with sights to verify the accuracy of your handgun, and the rest of the day was point shooting at 7, 15, and 25 yds!

He's going to be offering advanced self defense classes, and also rifle and shotgun defense as well.

You got that right! I saw him toss a guy out of the class when he wouldn't keep his finger off the trigger and was practicing poor gun discipline in general. Better to be like that than have a negligent discharge or worse.
