First, let me introduce my pistol. One model 722 Monsoon Dan Wesson with 6 inch barrel and a cheapo XTA red dot.

Before I bought it I had several people with more knowledge than me swear that the Dan Wesson 22's just weren't accurate. However I knew that revolvers weren't as accurate as autos and I wanted a match to my 357 DW.
I was leaving the range the other day and noticed the 25yrd range was deserted. So I hopped out, rested the DW across the top of my gun case and shot this 12 shot group with Golden Eagle match pistol ammo.

Seems I got some thinking to do about what I know about the accuracy of revolvers.

What distance? The full 25 yds?

That's the full 25. Was gonna hit the range today with my good rest and try it at 50, but snow hit before I got my butt in gear.

Well, if you wanna se snow in Oklahoma, don't blink. Had 1.5" before noon, now all but patches have melted away. It's a strange place. I remember one year for Christmas eve I had a picture of my son with the stringer of catfish he caught wearing shorts and a t-shirt (the son, not the catfish) and a picture on Christmas of him making a snowman.

I have never heard someone mention a DW revolver being inaccurate. Is this suppose to only apply to the .22's? I sadly missed on at $250 4 years ago.

I have an old DW744. I used it very successfully in handgun silhouette in the ‘80s. When I hung it up, it had a 8” heavy barrel. I finally got around to getting a 6” light barrel. I also discovered the chamber throats weren’t consistent. After reaming the throats, it is more accurate then ever.

How would a gun that only differs from the .357 version by the cylinder and the barrel tube be less accurate, shooting a very weak cartridge that is like shooting a cap gun in a gun that size? My friend had one of the first SS ones out there, and I had an older blued one that looked horrible, and both shot better than any other .22 revolver I've tried before or since.

Autos are more accurate than revolvers? Hmmmm...

I questioned the problems with the DW 22's before buying this one. Even on a DW board I was warned about problems with the accuracy in some of the 22's. In fact the shop owner where I bought this one even warned me about it. And I've had several people coment on how they had 22's that wouldn't shoot. There may be a couple of reasons. Perhaps the rimfires are more picky about the barrel cylinder gap. When set with the feeler gauge mine just shoots so-so, it's with the razor thin gap that it really shines. My 357's don't seem to care so much, other than spitting some lead if the gap's too wide. Also, maybe we're talking the difference between Monsoon guns and those produced later. I've never seen a non-monsoon, but from what I've heard the quality was abit iffy on those. More than anything, I think it's an urban legend. Or maybe it's just me, I have great luck with pistols that have a rep for being subpar, Keltecs, Pheonix, Grendel, Taurus, Mitchell. Maybe I have THE TOUCH.:D

The only negative things I remember hearing about the DW .22's were that the chambers on some of the early ones were a little rough, and as such, extraction could be a bit of a problem. I've also heard of a few that had problems with their lockwork, like the trigger would lock back and wouldn't reset. Other than that, I don't seem to recall anything bad being said about their accuracy.
