Ruger Security Six grip frame

I have an early SS (150 prefix) on which I tried to install a set of Pachmayrs.
Turns out the grip frame flares just a little too much on the bottom to fit.
So now it looks like it will take a very sharp exacto knife to trim some rubber from the grip interior.
Anyone else ever run into this issue?
How did it turn out for you?

They changed the grip design after the first batch came out because of complaints from gun writers that the revolver "rode up" during firing. You can get grips from Hogue for the earlier design. I don't know how well your approach will work. I dislike Pachmayrs in general. Plus the top of the grip frame was also changed.

Houge doesn't make grips for the 150 prefix guns.

There's more difference between the grip frame than just the bottom. The back strap is different at the top and flares out at the bottom. The grip pin is also in a different location.

Some of the older grips (like Jay Scott) were made to work on the 150 and 151 guns. You can still occasionally find 150 prefix grips on e-bay. The easiest way to tell if they fit both early and late guns is they will have to grip pin holes.

Or just modify it to take later model grips. It's not that hard. I had a pair of nice walnut open backed grips i had taken off my newer model Security Six, was tired of trying to find 150 prefix grips and figured why not? I roughed it into shape on a bench grinder (work real slow/test fit often) and did the final shaping with a Dremel (again, work slow/ test fit often). I sanded it smooth with different grit sandpaper and touched it up with cold blue. Unless you know the difference between the old/new model, you can't tell it from a factory stocker.

Thanks for the replies.
Since the gun is nearly pristine, modifying the frame is not what I want to do.
I'll try hogging out the Pachmayrs and if that don't work I'll get a T-grip.

They used to. I owned a set. I don't know if they do anymore though.

The only thing Hogue has listed states for 151 prefix and above. They 150 prefix grips are really getting hard to find. That's why i modified my 150 prefix gun to take lated model grips.
