just had a Sako AV in 300 IMP offered to me for $500.00, Before I pull the barrel I would like some info on the caliber. I have found nothing on it as of yet.

You would have to know which version it is. There is a 300 H&H IMP with a 30 degree shoulder, also with a 40 degree shoulder, an ICL version, maybe others.
The 300 Weatherby is basically the same, but has a rounded shoulder. I see little reason for a 300 improved now that the Weatherby is available.
If he has one he has to have dies if he has been shooting the thing? Otherwise, get a chamber cast and a set of dies made. You can most likely fire form the brass from 300 H&H.

I am not sure what you are asking; is this the 300 imp, or the 300 IMP, as in 'improved'? the 300 imp, is a very slow moving cartridge, made for shooting all sizes of game inside of 150 yds, it is very quite, and barely moves in the wind, and you get the heaviest bullets you can find for them, usually cast type bullets, and you handload. I wanna say this is done with a 357 case, or something similar.

I have some old literature that shows a ".308 X 1 imp". If it is an improved version of the 300 H&H the bolt should close easily on a standard 300 H&H. If not, you have something else entirely.
