rite now i have a "3 gun" gunrack and have 4 rifles..I want to make one that is different then the standard Horizontal type that has been done a million times..Can anyone suggest a Vertical type..Maybe post a pic if you have one.I just need to build something farily cheap until i have enough courage to buy a safe..thanks..

There are no kids in my house so having them locked isn't necessary at all and theft just isn't an issue where i live....thanks for any suggestions i was gonna post in the rifle forum but just would like to keep it in the general forum if possible

I keep most of my rifles in a locked closet. To keep them upright, I bought a couple garden tool racks at Lowe's, one for each wall of the closet that my guns lean against. The rack is a wood bar with holes drilled in it every few inches. Dowels go into the holes, sticking out parrallel to the floor. They were about $10 each and work great. You could make one yourself with a 2x4, a drill, and dowels, but I was feeling lazy.

My dad built his gun cabinet (not a safe) out of an old amoire (sp?). He cut the center of the door out and installed a piece of glass. He made "holders" for the guns out of wood and lined it with felt.
There is a drawer on the bottom where all the ammo and cleaning supplies are kept out of sight.

Hard to explain - but now it looks like an antique gun cabinet that would cost a lot of $$$$.

The door locks with a skeleton key so it shopulod keep curious kids out.

Walmart has some pretty good deals on inexpensive glass front gun cabinets all the time. Check there after you get some prices on materials for a homemade one unless you really want something you build yourself.
There is a local builder around here that incorporates in-the-wall upright gun cabinets with glass doors in hallways. I always thought they were neat. If your real handy that might be a way to go.
