Hi:

I'm trying to pull together the history of my GGF's .32 cal revolver. According to S & W's historian Roy Jinks, J.W. Storrs Co. aquired the gun on 5/23/1863. It looks like the reseller has been out of business for quite a while. Anyone have any idea of what happened to them?

Than You,

Hobie

"Smith & Wesson’s sole agent from 1857 to 1869."

I don't know the history behind this or what Mr. Storrs did afterward. It appears from scattered references that the Storrs were a well known NY family.

Maybe he moved to Hartford Conn.

I did a Google search on "j w storrs" and found that he paid S&W $500 in 1859 for the agency. I didn't dig much deeper, but it seems they were in business for quite a few years. I didn't find any indication as to exactly when they went out of business, or why. I am afraid a serious search might require looking through old records that are not available on line, so it could be expensive unless you are in or very near NYC.
