Hi, all,
Excluding range fees and the price of a trap gun, about how much should one expect to spend to shoot a round of trap?
Thanks,

Highjacking your thread here pd..... There is a shoot at W&W on the 10th of August 10:00 'till darkness (or hunger) sets in.
I am planning on some Sporting Clays.
You think you might make it?

My membership for a club just outside of Milwaukee is $26 a year, and a round of 25 is $5 for members, $7 for non-members.
You can buy a card good for 20 rounds up front for $80 saving you a dollar a round if you wish.

The club I belong to is $35 membership a year and skeet and trap is $3.50 a round and 5stand is $5.50 a round. Are in the process of putting in 4th skeet- trap overlay field and the club just bought a doubles trap machine. Non-members pay an extra dollar a round and 10% more for shells and reloading supplies.

Hey, Mike,
Might... but it's a slender "might." (Hardly matters, as I don't own a shotty, nor do I know how to use one -- but I'm interested enough in clay sports to scrounge info here. ;) )
I'm going to try to get down to Ray's thing on Sept. 6, though. Will you be there?
Hey, Andrew,
How much would the ammo and clays cost? Anything else that gets consumed?
Thanks,

Club membership-$40, per round of Trap is 3 dollars.
Ammo cost vary, since I don't reload, it's 3 dollars of box of the cheap stuff (game loads), 5 dollars for the good stuff (STS, AA).

1 Year Family Membership - $40
1 Round of Trap - $5
1 Box of Reloads (my own) - $3
Running 25 straight - Priceless
Actually, trap is like crack. Some friendly person gets you to try a round. You like it. You shoot a few more rounds. It's fun, and when the clays are breaking, makes you feel good.
Pretty soon, it's all you do. You've spent all your money on shotguns and reloading equipment. When your wife is looking for you, you're either at the range or down in the basement working up a new super-duper load or shells.
When you're not shooting, your thinking about why you drop a couple birds now and then, and worrying about getting a flinch. You convince yourself that all you need is more practice... more equipment... more everything.
Yeah, don't worry, you can stop anytime you want.
Sure.

My "home" club is $25 per year for a membership, $35 for a family membership and $3 per round of trap or skeet. Rifle and pistol are $3 per day range fees. I reload in copious quantities, AA equivalents cost me less than $2.50 per box. I can load a little cheaper than that, approaching $2 per box, but it is not worth it for the loss of performance. The only costs you should pay are range fees, ammo costs, and tips for the trapper if applicable. At my home club it is a member/shooter pulling targets so there is no tipping, but at clubs that are staffed tipping is proper procedure as the kids are paid very little for thier efforts. A buck per round won't hurt anyone and the kids deserve it IMO, they endure some real jerks and some poor weather.
AndrewWalkowiak, what club do you shoot at? I am 25 minutes south of Milwaukee and shoot at a couple clubs.....

SWEG, cost of a box of my current trap and skeet load is about $2.50. Top components, and my old MEC setup paid for itself in weeks.
TR, crack is more debilitating. As I remind the Permanent Head of the Budget Committee (Wonderful Wife), shooting means 50 to 125 reps of lifting 7 to 9 lb weights shoulder high. Throw in the fresh air and walking, a good workout and she's always after me staying healthy....

Where I shoot clay:
Trap or Skeet $5.00 + $4.50 for a box of Win AA's
5-Stand $7.00 + $6.75 for a box and 1/2 (roughly) of Win AA's
Sporting Clays $17.00 (50 targets not inclulding lookers) + $13.50 for 3 boxes of Win AA's
$150.00 for a family membership knocks off 1 or 2 bucks per round.
My name is Ringer and I'm addicted to Sporting Clays:D

Hey, Andrew,
How much would the ammo and clays cost? Anything else that gets consumed?
The $5 is for the round and the clays used.
The only other "consumable is the shells". They sell Remington "Gun Club" for $4.50 and Winchester AA for $5.00.
If you don't have a gun, it's $1 per round to rent one, but they usually just charge $1 for the time you're there. It looks like my club is on the high side of the price range, but some state they have voice activated releases, whereas my club has a squad of teenagers running the traps and scoring.
I buy Win AA's at Wal-Mart on my way out there for $4.58 a box.
