Band of Brothers Garand Question

In BOB, there's a trooper or two with a Garand that has a full clip dangling off the front of the sling. How did they attach it on there?
I fooled around with a clip and tried to jam it on my fabric sling and it stretched the clip walls too far apart. The GI's must have fashioned some kind of fastener.
I guess it was for a "fast grab."

Slide the sling between the rows of cartridges. Their will be 4 cartridges clinging to each side of the sling. Works pretty good.

Tele-
can you explain this in greater detail? You have my interest.

I thought the explanation was pretty clear; it is not the best way to carry M1 clips but it was used. Some soldiers stuck them in the helmet strap (which was never fastened, as most GI's thought a shell burst would tear off the helmet and the head along with it). Others just carried the bandoliers, or kept a clip in the left hand. The cartridge belt was usually for cigarettes and important stuff like candy bars. (Peacetime, but I used a couple of pockets of mine for Lifesavers.)
But don't get too hung up on the M1 use in BOB and SPR. Almost all except those in closeups were plastic dummies with solid plastic dummy clips. Some rifles were made with the top open so an actor could be seen "loading" the rifle.

Think of the garand clip as nonething more than a spring. I think you did it right the first time but you tried to put both layers of the canvas sling between the cartridges. I 't real easy, just put the sling (1 layer) thru the clip opening so that there are 4 cartridges on each side of the sling. You don't have to "clip" the enbloc at the top of the sling, you can put them at the bottom also. That spring steel clip holds the cartridges and sling fairly tight, they won't go anywhere till you pull the clip away from the sling. Good luck

I recall reading a story by David Hackworth (I think) where he carried a fresh clip on his suspenders or sling becuase he saw someone else do it. His superior advised him NOT to do so. (apparently at this point he was NOT allowed to carry his weapon loaded).
Anyway, the S hit the F, and they took fire, diving into a ditch face first, wherein the guy grabs his ready en-bloc clip which is now covered in gooey mud and sand. Our intrepid hero shakes it off, rams it into thr rifle and jams it to the point of non-functionability.
Not that you will be facing hoardes of North Koreas with a WW2 rifle anytime soon, just suggesting maybe its not such a good idea to carry an en-bloc clip that way.
