So what's the deal with Winchester white box JHP (http://winchester.com/ammunition/store/cfhproductsheet.aspx?symbol=USA40JHP&qrystr=Y2FydGxpc3QrQUQwLU5EQWdVMjFwZEdnZ0swRkRXUzBnVjJWemMyOXUrQUNZLXVzZWxpc3QrQUQwLVBQK0FDWS1icmFuZGxpc3QrQUQwLW5vbmUrQUNZLWJ1bGxldHR5cGUrQUQwLUpIUA==)? All of the name brand JHP's go for $20/box of 20 rounds, but this stuff is $13.94(after tax)/box of 50 rounds at Wal-Mart. Is there something wrong with it?

-Projectile with hole in the front? Check.
-Case? Check.
-Powder in the case? Check.
-Primer? Check.
-Goes bang every time? Check.

So if this stuff is apparently the same as other JHP's, why the cost differential? Is it just some kind of ammo snobbery, or is there something legitimately wrong with it?

-Teuf

I think I remember hearing that it was brass plated slugs instead of a copper jacket.... but I'm not 100% sure about that.

I know my P-11 loves it in 9mm :)

All of my guns like it. Have you seen the 100 rd bulk packs yet? $20 a box

If you are to believe the ammolab.com tests it's good stuff, I keep the 147 gr JHP in my Beretta home defense gun.

I've put a few hundred rounds through both my KP-90 Ruger & Springfield Champion 1911-A1. No complaints.

I used to get worked up about voodoo ballistics, but I think it's a moot point. Stopping power comes primarily from shot placement, and a hollow point just gives you a larger margin for error.

I think it comes down to having a reliable round with a hollow point, and then you need to do your part.

The next time I rotate out my carry ammo, all the 9mm's are getting the Winchester white box stuff. There is a twinge when I think about parting with my +P doom loads, but I think I am just being sentimental.

Of course, the big bonus here is now carry ammo becomes affordable to shoot A LOT of, and that relates directly to shot placement.

You said it - it's really ammo snobbery.

I carry White Box 125gr+P in my .38 snub. I think the White Box stuff is good.

I use Winchester White Box in ALL of my defensive handguns. Never had a problem with it in any way. ONLY difference I have seen is that the round is typically not as "pretty" as the other premium rounds.

I use WWB .45ACP 230 gr JHP's in my Kimber for CCW. No feed, extraction, or ejection problems after about 500 rounds. They seem to hit where I point. A lot of people confuse cost and quality. The two are often not related. My $0.02 worth.

Do they have .45 JHPs in whitebox as well? I only seen the 9mm stuff.

My Wal Mart is carrying the 100 round white box value packs in .40 FMJ for 15 bucks a box. I bought 200 rounds, and now that pay day has come, I'll probably swing around for 200 more, so as to not pass up on a good thing.

Skunk, I bought several boxes of WWB .45 ACP 230 gr JHP's at my local gun shop last week. Price for 50 was $14.49. The Winchester code on the box end flap is USA45JHP. Haven't seen them at Wally World. Hope this helps.

Has the price gone up?? I last bought the 9mm at wally world about a month ago and it was 10.99 box then. As far as it being good ammo, I have no complaints, I have several boxes thru my Sig and no problems so far

I saw some of you guys mention Whinchester White box in JHP. The only ones I've ever seen or bought have been FMJ. Am I missing something?

See if this works.

Winchester USA .45 auto 230 gr. JHP (http://www.winchester.com/ammunition/store/cfhproductsheet.aspx?symbol=USA45JHP&qrystr=Y2FydGxpc3QrQUQwLU5EVWdRWFYwYjIxaGRHbGorQUNZLXVzZWxpc3QrQUQwLW5vbmUrQUNZLWJyYW5kbGlzdCtBRDAtNStBQ1ktYnVsbGV0dHlwZStBRDAtbm9uZQ==)

It's out there in 9mm. My local WM carries it. I stick with the 9mm +P loads by Georgia Arms - 14 per 50 at the local gunshows.

However, Winchester White Box comes in all kinds of flavors. In fact, (as mentioned above) I use Winchester White Box Personal Protection JHPs for my defense ammo.

My guns like it, so I do, too. It always makes a hole where and when I want one made. I carry it.

I use Win USA 9mm 115 grain JHP Personal Protection as my 9mm carry round because it feeds well, and is cheap enough that I can practice with it. Every time I go to the range I fire off my two carry mags and start fresh when I leave. Regards, Keys

9mm - $11
.40 - $20
.45 - $20

And yes, it is very good ammo.

I've shot some of the white box 230JHP in my kimber and it's accurate reliable ammo, but I still keep the kimber loaded with 200gr cor bons for serious work. Not really for any reason other than I have a bunch ofd it, I wouldn't hesitate to keep it loaded with the winchester stuff.

I practice with the Winchester Whitebox 115gr FMJ mostly, but every now and then I shoot the Winchester Whitebox 115gr JHP. It feeds perfectly in my Steyr M9, Kel-Tec P-11 and even my Feather RAV-9MM. So no complaints here.

My local Academy Sports and Outdoors has Winchester White Box .45ACP JHP for $15.99 per box of 50. Sounds like a good deal based on what I've seen reported here, so I may go buy a case or so. BTW, it works great in all of my guns (as far as feeding, ejecting, and accuracy goes).

cuts packaging corners by omitting the pretty cartridge holders. The rounds are loose in the box. Other than that, I don't see any difference. The .45 and the 9 function reliably and accurately in my P90 and P11! Good stuff, I say.

edited for aleko: the value pack is all FMJ. .45 costs 19.96/100 at Wal*Mart - lots cheaper than 15/50.

 I guess we are not on the same page here than... ;) I realized value packs were FMJ, but I thought we were talking about Winchester .45ACP JHP here. ;)
