Story Here (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/030725/170/4sgya.html)

A combination photo shows the bodies claimed to be of Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)'s sons, Qusay (L) and Uday, who U.S. forces announced were killed in a fierce gun battle on July 22 in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, as they lie in the US Air Force morgue at the Baghdad airport, July 25, 2003. U.S. forces in Iraq (news - web sites) partly rebuilt the faces of two bodies shown to journalists on Friday in an effort to convince Iraqis that the battle-scarred corpses were those of Saddam Hussein's widely feared sons. So, we're admitting that we've rebuilt their faces to look like them, and expect people who didn't believe it was them in the original unretouched photos to suddenly change their minds?

And, btw, I believe we did zap the Husseins the other day.

But I'm shakin' my head at the stupidity of that story.

maybe they should of tried the Rodgers method:

It was Colonel Alexander Rodgers of the 6th Cavalry who accomplished by taking advantage of religious prejudice what the bayonets and Krags had been unable to accomplish. Rodgers inaugurated a system of burying all dead juramentados in a common grave with the carcasses of slaughtered pigs. The Mohammedan religion forbids contact with pork; and this relatively simple device resulted in the withdrawal of juramentados to sections not containing a Rodgers. Other officers took up the principle, adding new refinements to make it additionally unattractive to the Moros. In some sections the Moro juramentado was beheaded after death and the head sewn inside the carcass of a pig. And so the rite of running juramentado, at least semi-religious in character, ceased to be in Sulu. The last cases of this religious mania occurred in the early decades of the century. The juramentados were replaced by the amucks. .. who were simply homicidal maniacs with no religious significance attaching to their acts.

The report is claiming the faces were rebuilt after the first series of photos were released to the public. To me, the images that depict the "rebuilt" faces look photoshop'd. This one in particular.

Here's a classic series of quotes:
We decided the people in the house were not Uday and Qusay," said Shabib Hassom, 30. "There is no clear evidence. We think they were just some innocent people there.

Anyway, there are rumours they are living in the United States.

They were pretty severely bruised by the TOW missles

i'm sure they had to use a pretty heavy foundation
to cover the post mortem complexion issues

Whats up with the thorax incission and stitching?

Were the brothers organ donors?

"Whats up with the thorax incission and stitching?"

Standard "Y" autopsy incision.

The faces show make up used to give the faces a life-like coloration. You'd be surprised at how unlike a person a corpse looks like when all the vital color is gone.

gun, like Mike sez, that's how the doc opens you up to remove the organs and rebags them. I'm surprised they stitched them up??? Must be because of the heat.

My secretary today was laughing at the notion that some kooks and conspiracy buffs over there say that they are alive. I reminded here that some people here believe that Elvis and Jim Morrison are still alive as well.:D

The only constant is stupidity.:uhoh:

Something else I think is dumb is displaying the bodies laid on their backs. I am sure very few Iraqis ever saw the two brothers flat on their backs.

I think what could have been done is clean them up, patch up any major disfigurements and stand them up like they used to do in the Old West when displaying the bodies of outlaws. In the Old West they sometimes even kept their eyes open and sometimes the bodies were stripped, displaying bullet holes and other wounds. Much more impressive presentation.

Some people might find that kind of presentation disrepectful of the dead. But for those two goons, I think not.

You have to stitch them to embalm them.

What would happen if they were still alive and popped up on arab TV holding pictures of their supposedly dead bodies?

Does anyone think the US is stupid enough to try to pull that off if they were not sure they were really dead?

My guess is that given the political sensitivity of these two corpses at the moment, they're not going to be set out to the trash for quite some time.

And, if you don't do anything in the interim, they're going to decompose.

So, you either freeze them, which makes transport and storage difficult in an area where it's hot and electrical power is spotty at times, or you embalm them.

Given that the military has an ENORMOUS mortuary services contingent, and that elements of that service are highly portable, I think embalming them is a complete no brainer.

You have to stitch them to embalm them.

No way! The embalming fluid would be poisonous to the vultures picking at their carcasses when you hang them in the city square...

They look about as good as anyone I've ever seen in a funeral home after major trauma.

I think the combo of dental records, physical identification of multiple people, and xrays of the specific damage from previous broken bones, as well as the titanium screws. Couple all this with the results of the DNA testing yet to be completed. Will be enough to convince Iraqi's with a brain. Those without them will be lumped in the Elvis, Hoffa, and Morrison believer types.

So they shaved off their beards? Yuck, that must be the worst job in the Army.

Seriously, those photos look like wax statues. Any Iraqi who didn't believe the last set of pics sure isn't going to believe these. The new ones could be any Joe Schmo with a bunch of makeup.

And didn't I read somewhere about the Arab shame/honor culture where lying is acceptable if it keeps honor? I think the Iraqis know darn well its Uday and Qusay but their culture tells them its Ok to deny it.

"So, we're admitting that we've rebuilt their faces to look like them, and expect people who didn't believe it was them in the original unretouched photos to suddenly change their minds?"

Yup.

As found might convince some......re-beautified might convince some others and the combination of before and after might convince even more.

Refrigeration helps extend the keepability of embalmed carcasses.

We tryin to use all the tools.

They may look bad but at least they weren't floaters.

IIRC, think one recent news report said they both apparently died of trauma to the head. Uday apparently died with something contacted his head, perhaps from above, like a chunk of concrete. Quesay died of two gunshot wounds to the head. One in the right ear, and one right behind the right ear.

Both men had at least 20 bullet wounds each, and Udays' abdomen was riddled with bullet wounds. And with the 10 TOWs fired at them, I imagine there are shrapnell wounds as well.

Those guys look in pretty good shape after all that.

CNN.com is supposed to be posting streamable videotape of the bodies -- very graphic images -- "soon," according to the NY Times.
