Nice, very nice. I would never shoot it, though, hard to tell how much stretching that 150 year old brass frame has done.

Concur with not shooting it. That's what replicas are for. Hopefully the successful bidder gives it a good home.

Way way way way outta MY price range!!!:(:(:o:o:o
Interestingly, while that was a nice brass frame copy of the 1851 Colt, the barrel wedge seemed different than Colts. Does anyone have any information on this??? Was it a replacement? Did Augusta make their wedges different?

I don't know about the rest of you but my fake-O-meter is ringing away. The only out of focus picture is the one that shows the numbers. They do have a 3 day inspection period but you have to give up 15 K before you can inspect. Well what happens when they just moved in those three days? I wouldn't even consider buying it without some paper work from someone like Christies.

If the confederates spent as much time on the war as they did on making heirlooms, they may have won....

I like that it shows the slightly cocked grip frame. The Officer that commissioned these guns wanted the angle of the grip changed to suit his shooting style. He said it pointed more naturally that way.

I think you missed my point. Over the internet there is no way to determine if what you are looking at is real. And I just don't mean fake but if the picture is what you are bidding on. To trust someone, that you don't know or even have seen their face, enough to send them seventeen THOUSAND dollars is a little over the top for me. If you were going to buy a car for that much money wouldn't you have it checked out by someone you trust to give a good estimate of it's worth? That is why I would want a reputable dealer in antique firearms to check it out before I even considered bidding on it.
I just did a quick once over of the gunbroker site. One really needs to be aware that there is little to no way gunbrokers is a gun broker. They have no stake in the sale at all. They do not hold the money until both parties are satisfied and there is no way to trace the seller after a sale. I hope this seller actually ships this firearm but there is nothing that will get gunbrokers involved in the sale. You are on your own with these guys. They get a cut of the deal but that is from a credit card the seller gives them. Not from the funds of the items sale.
I wonder how many people have been burned by this site? Do you think gunbrokers is going to say how many people have been burned on their site? Of course not they want you to think it is a safe way to sell your stuff. There is nothing safe about what they are doing.
Everthing about these sales is based solely on the honesty of the seller. Well my trusting nature starts to not be so trusting when the amount of money we are talking about goes over a hundred dollars. Considering I got burned for a thousand seven hundred dollars from an on line retailer last year doesn't make me feel any better about someone that doesn't even have a web site or brick and mortar store.

If you are spending 17 grand on anything over the internet I hope you do it through an escrow account or whatever.
