Turkey Season in Ga begins on 22 March 08 when do you think it would be a good time to start scouting. And when would you start calling to try and locate them without scaring them off.

Don't Turkey call to locate them, just owl hoot or use various other LOCATOR calls. Generally they will start goobling 30 minutes before sunrise. When it gets closer to or during breeding, some birds will gooble a lot earlier.
You just want to hear them gooble. you don't want them to come looking for you before your actually hunting. Probably in your location, they will start goobling more in late Feb. They do gooble through out the year. It may be a game law voliation to turkey call to them before your hunting season. Flyrodder

Depends on what you mean by scouting. You can find the general roost areas now. Starting in March you'll want to go listen early in the am and pm to try to get an idea of the direction they move. Glassing and listening midday will give you an idea of where they hang out then. Turkeys tend to do follow the same patterns year after year, so if you've known about what they do for the past couple of years you only need to note what the new gobblers are doing.

I would not call at all until just before season opens and then only with locator calls early and late to nail down roost trees. I believe you have a limited number of times per season a turkey will respond to a call before it becomes used to it. Don't waste any of those times before the season starts.

Making hen sounds any time you're not trying to call in a bird is a bad idea.
