New Ghostring Setup

I just wanted to get some input on a new ghostring setup I made for my 870. After shooting the aperture sights on my match gun for awhile, I realized how easy and fast it was to line up two concentric circles, and added the post in the middle for more precise slugwork. It ended up looking a lot like an HK front sight, but longer so it could take a little more abuse. The rear is pretty similar to the AR design, but well protected with steel ears and windage adjustable with an allen-head screw (don't need to make "in the field" changes with a shotty much, and I figured it'd just be one more thing to go wrong).

I've only put around 75 round through it so far, but it seems to be holding up just fine. Let me know what you think - pros AND cons.

Looks good from here, I see no reason it shouldn't work.

The setup on my HD 870 uses a hooded front, an old Williams ramp was grooved for the hood as seen on old 94 Winchesters. The thing worked well, until my cataract surgery. YMMV....

I like it... i'm looking at adding a ghostring setup to my mossberg 500, but never considered making one with the circle up front, as well.

Can you make any more? :)

Sorry - no manufacturing intent here! :D Only some crazy ideas, a little access to a machine shop, and some meager machining skills. Feel free to steal and reproduce anything you see - just make sure you write my name on the side in 3" block letters.......:p

There is no reason why it shouldn't work. HK has been using that idea on most of their rifles and sub-guns for years. The SKS also used that design.

There was a company at the SHOT show about 4 years ago that made a front sight/mag extension support for the 870 that looked like that. I have a few somewhere, but I don't know where right now. There was one major flaw in their design. They had them made to fit the old thin 870 barrels. They would not fit the new 18" barrels without modification.

Did you make the rear sight? It looks good.

Your setup looks good. I have an MMC ghost ring rear sight/AO front sight setup on my Remington model 11. Works great with slugs, gets strange looks when I break it out for sporting clays.
