I need to purchase the cheapest jacketed .44mag and .44spl that exists, but under $20/50 seems non-existant! Please help!

I doubt that you'll find jacketed 44 for less than $20/50.
I've had good service from ammoman

Just checked at Wideners and they have CCI aluminum .44 mag for 15.50 a box. I have used a lot of this CCI in my bottom feeders with no problems...

For what it's worth, I have had trouble with CCI aluminum blazer in my Charter Arms .44spl. No other ammunition has had a problem.

Invest in reloading gear, buy a box of 50, and reload those for a while.

That's the ONLY way you're going to shoot .44Magnum economically.

wideners is great thanx! There web site is kind of annoying, no way to see all ammo by caliber, but with those prices who cares!
Any other ammo-source suggestions?
Everyone tells me about the reloading thing, but it is not for me...

Not to doubt PTK, but CCI Blazer aluminum is the only thing I've put through my Bulldog. Affordable, if you can make it work for you.

PTK, if you're getting failure to fire every few rounds, please return your gun to the dealer or to Charter Arms, or have your gun checked out by a good gunsmith. It should not do that. As you can see from others' responses, they have perfect reliability with Blazers in their Bulldogs. So do I. There is something wrong with your particular gun.

I bought 1000 rounds of the Federal 'American Eagle' red box JHPs from Ammoman a few months ago and split it with a friend.
Been feeding it through my PC 629 with great results. Watermelons, pumpkins, a gopher and one vapoized pigeon will all attest to the accuracy and performance.
All the emptys are in the boxes awaiting reloading. I have 8lbs of H110, 6 cavity mold and 200 lbs of wheel weights cleaned, fluxed and cast into 1lb ingots.
I've never reloaded before, but if I get to shoot more for the same $, I'm willing to learn!

Ammoman had CCI Blazer for 15 if I remember right--and paid shipping on 5 boxes or more.

Hate to say it, but that's why I got out of the .44 caliber. Two years or so ago, I used to buy 50 rounds of CCI/Blazer 200 gr 44 Spl for $12.86. At that time I had three .44 Spls.
During the great caliber/inventory reduction of 06/07, I sold all three. Ammo was up to $19 and change, and last time I checked, $24 and change.
Don't know if they sell online, but Collins Cartridge Company was at a local (DFW) gun show this weekend. They were selling their 44 Spl JHPs and 44 Mag JSPs for under $20/50. Might be worth a look.

I made a nice sized purchase at widers, but they only had .44mag, no spl; I also would appreciate some .44spl deals that anyone would recommend.

excellent quality reloads can be found at www.bestshotammo.com
It is a small family run business that produces EXCELLENT quality reloads that do not look or shoot like reloads. I have purchased there .45acp 230gr rnl, .38 and .357 swc with great results. since they are small there customer service can be spotty...but go easy on them...the ammo speaks for itself!

.44 is what got me into reloading. I no longer have .44 cal handguns but I still have the reloading gear and continue to save $$$ on .38 and .357.

I cannot remember the last time I bought a box of .44 mag or special. Others have said it, buy a kit like the Lee Anniversary Kit for less than a 100 bucks and you will be making good shooting ammo for less than $7.00 a box. Reloading pistol ammo does not take expensive equipment. Keep your eye out for brass. One thing that I have noticed is that .44 Magnum brass is easy range pick-up, just not in full boxes. Seems quite a few people shoot five or ten rounds and then put the gun away. .44 Special I almost never see left behind.

about how much does it cost to get setup to reload .44mag and .357mag?
whoops...didn't see the post above mine.
Really? Less then $100? I thought it'd be more expensive

cost vs. time - how long would it take to reload 250 rnds 44mag from start to finish including setup, cleanup and storing away all the reloading equipment?
Widers price: 77.50+s/h = $85-90
Reloading at the above mentioned $7/box cost: $35 (does this include brass?)
Savings: $45 per 250 rounds
How much time would it take to earn the $45 reloading?
Also, you would need to reload about 600 cartridges before breaking even with $100 setup...
Please suggest sources for inexpensive .44spl ammo :)
bestshotammo has good prices (not as good as wideners) but too large quantites for my needs...

Try GA Arms for ammo. Their own ammo is very good and they likely sell a low powered semi-wad cutter load in 44. http://www.georgia-arms.com/

Need to buy .44 ammo, got sticker shock, help me find places online please!
Eek, bought the sports car before checking the insurance premiums, eh? ;) :D
Everyone tells me about the reloading thing, but it is not for me...
Maybe not now, but I'd save your brass. I get sick when I think about all the 38/357 brass I tossed away before I started reloading. The 44 Mag/Spl is considered a reloaders cartridge b/c of the high cost involved, much like 41 Mag and 45 Colt.
If you ever get interested in reloading, I suggest reading the following manual: "ABC's of Reloading, 7th Edition" by Bill Chevalier. It provides an excellent overview of the reloading process. After reading it, I knew reloading was something I or anyone else is capable of doing, provided you at least have patience and a modicrum of mechanical inclination / ability.
As for cost, I ordered my press last year from Kempf Gun Shop http://www.kempfgunshop.com/products/reloading/leeprecision/kits/KempfKit.html:
Reloading Kit featuring the Lee Classic Turret Press. This press is capable of loading about 200 rounds per hour (I do about 140 to 160 per hour). The kit includes the dies in the caliber of your choice, Pro Autodisk powder measure (an upgrade I chose) and primer feeder.
Price for the above: $170 plus VERY reasonable shipping (less than $20).
Here's a couple of videos of the reloading process using the Lee Classic 4-Hole Turret Press that I purchased:
http://www.leeprecision.com/html/HelpVideos/videos/Turret%20Press/loading%2045%20case-1.wmv
http://www.leeprecision.com/html/HelpVideos/videos/Turret%20Press/loading%20on%20turret-1.wmv
Note that there is a TON of different equipment available (some more expensive, some less). The above is but one example, and obviously not perfect for everyone.
Additionally, I purchased the following:
- bullet puller for about $15
- primer pocket cleaner for $2
- 6" Calipers (digital or analog) for around $10 - $25
- magnetic powder scale (the Lee Safety Scale only costs $20, but I'll be getting the Hornady Model M for about $55)
- weight checks for magnetic powder scale for $30
- 6 plastic ammo boxes for about $25
So figure about $350-ish(including estimated shipping) for all of the above. They also have very good pricing on cast bullets.
For 44 Spl/Mag, if you scrounge your own brass or save your factory new stuff, you can probably save roughly to 50 to 60%. 'Course, that just means you shoot more :D. Plus, you will have the ability to load ammo more accurate than the factory can.

Check at Sportsman's Guide and see what S&B costs. That's the cheapest factory .357 Magnum ammo I've found.
Save your brass. You will get into reloading eventually if you keep shooting any of the big-bore revolvers. I reload hopped-up .45LC's for less than a nickel per shot -- and that's paying current prices for the primers and powder.

For 44 Magnum $26/50 for Fiocchi/Magtech is cheapest I've seen for new.
44 SPL-Good luck on that, I have a S&W 624 and just used some of my gift cards from Christmas to get components to reload 200 rounds last weekend. If you end up reloading for the SPL, just use the 200 gr Noslers to plink with and the 200 gr Gold Dots for SD.

Read Post #25 - GA Arms makes great ammo at decent prices. The CCI Blazer 200gr GDJHP .44 Special is $29/50 at 'Academy' now - they use the same Speer #4427 GDJHP at GA Arms in new Starline .44 Special brass for less - and you get brass!. Try them.

PS Reloading won't save much these days... components are outrageous.

new from a remanufacturing company Ammodirect in Tenn. near Memphis. It was $352 plus about $23 shipping. When I get it shot up they will reload the empties I send back for .22 a round plus shipping back to me. Minimum they will reload at that price is 800 rounds. These are 200 grain lead bullets in Starline brass. I have not fired any yet because the 44 Special I am buying is on layaway. I think remanufactured ammo is a great thing as I do not want to start reloading.

357-8-times,
Welcome to reality. Compare GA Arms with 'S.G.' and other 'inexpensive' mail order sources - and you'll see how wrong you are. Ammo prices are unreal. The only commercial ammo I saw even near, while still North of their prices was for 20 or 25 rounds. The GA Arms .44 ammo is priced 50 per bag up. Check other prices.
We are all suffering today. Reloading is unreal - $30/1k primers, $20/lb propellant, $200+/1k bullets. It cost ~$.25/rd to reload your brass in larger calibers, whether clad or lead. You don't save much these days with .38s or .32s, either.

Wow, I reload my .44 mags for less than $4.50 per box/50 right now. It's $30 a box at the stores around me.
My best place to find .44 mag or .357 mag cases is actually in the rifle bays at my local range. Seems there's guys with cowboy carbines there. Between the range rats that shoot pistol and the fact that most guys I know reload theirs, slim pickins' on Magnums around here.
I got lucky and scored a complete box of WWB 44 mags from some kids with a 44 Desert Eagle that were just clowning around and then left all their brass on the ground.

It cost me 9 dollars to reload 50 rounds of a mild 44 Mag. I used a 200g Copper Plated bullet which cost 12.6 cents per round. I would start reloading now, it is not going to get any cheaper.

That is cheap for good quality ammo. Remember that is for a box of 50, not 20 rounds. But everyone has their own sense of value. Good luck. I will continue buying from GA Arms as they have great service and I see them at gunshows.

Never mind, back in stock at wideners at 45% off of the GA price (although alum, not brass).
