Could this be an option?

(Not in jeans but in something like pleated Dockers.)

Bill, I typically carry an 2 1/2" SP101 DOA in a suede pocket holster in the front pocket of my jeans. (They don't make Dockers in my size. SIGH!) It stays put and oriented correctly. However, I tend to wear my pants a bit roomy so this might not work for everyone.

Neat gun for home defence or truck gun.

Sights are not good enough for target shooting.:scrutiny:

They are too heavy for me to pocket carry and a J-frame S&W feels nicer
on the belt and can depending on the pants be pocket carried.

This does not stop me from wanting one again.:neener:

This would require some roomy pants and strong pockets. I have found that my maximum comfortable revolver pocket carry, in the typical pants that I wear, is my Taurus 651 titanium, 19 ounces loaded. My SP-101s come in at about 27 ounces loaded and it is much like carrying a brick in my front pants pocket.

Well,

I attempted for a while. I am 6' 3" and 239. I could hide it just fine in my cargo and Docker style pants. Problem is the weight. I always felt it was pulling my pants down. GREAT belt / IWB, did not work for me in my pocket. (I did use a pocket holster as well)

No. I carry one, a 2.25", in a pancake or IWB and that does fine, but it just too heavy to carry inside a pants pocket.

Too heavy for pocket carry for most folks. Although i wish it was otherwise, as i love mine.

I tried - you need big pockets and a good belt...it's really too big and heavy for that, IMO.

Too Heavy? Bah! I have been known to carry an SP101 in each front pocket, using pleated slacks called Riatas, made by Wrangler, which have been made of various fabrics over time, including a heavy cloth like denim. (Dockers are made by a company that supports antigun causes, Levi Strauss.) It helps to keep the waist slim, and use a sturdy belt. I got away from pockets for primary weapons carry after finding deployment can be slow when one is bent at the waist, so now I just carry one in a pocket, usually in a Kramer pocket rig, but sometimes Galco or Uncle Mike's, depending on the size and shape of the pocket. Only rarely will I substitute a J-frame or a Seecamp, because some pants just have little pockets.

Too heavy for me! Pockets: keys; firearms: holsters. :-D

Yes, handguns are best kept in holsters, but a pocket can be a viable option in which to keep an alternate handgun, which is not the same as a "back-up" gun. Better a jacket pocket than a pants pocket, if it is jacket weather. A pocketed snubby enables one to have a hand on the weapon, in a firing grip, ready for a surprise draw while remaining discrete. It does take a big pocket; big enough for the weapon plus the hand holding it, and a religious-like devotion to keeping the finger out of the trigger guard until the weapon is well clear of the pocket, or if inside a jacket, at least well clear of the wearer's body.

I carry mine in dark colored, pleated dockers or large pocket jeans (like carpenters jeans). I use a Desantis Nemisis (http://www.desantisholster.com/n38.html) pocket holster and cut the internal stitching a little to get the gun to sit a little deeper.

Works great. My Airweight 642 is lighter and I forget that it's there, but the firepower of the SP101 is more comforting.

I did it for a brief time, in a High Noon Pocket Grabber holster. Even in the roomiest of pants pockets, it is too big -taking up too much room in the pocket - to get a good initial grasp on, and the printing is quite prominent (although the pocket holster breaks up its outline so it is not obviously a gun). The weight constantly tugs and pulls at your pants and belt, too.

Not a chance!

642 in the pocket, but the SP rides IWB.

..not necessarily practical. I just think the SP 101 (I have the 3 1/8" bbl vers)
is an IWB piece and the 640/M85 types are the real pocket revolvers.

I carry the DAO in a Mika round-cut pocket holster every day...No problem.

Heavy yes, but definitely will fit in the front pocket.

A 2-1/8" spur hammer version would be my choice.

I've carried mine in a pocket holster in cargo shorts with no problem.

I haven't been counting, but clearly there are two camps here, those who have no problem putting an SP101 in a front pocket, and those who say don't do it.

Could it have something to do with body shape and size? I wish I could correlate responses with height, weight, waist, leg circumference, etc.

Something to consider when contemplating carrying a gun in your pocket (I'm speaking primarily of front pants pockets now) is not only how well it goes into a pocket and how it feels there, but how well it comes out of the pocket when needed urgently. I can hide my Glock 19 in the front pocket of my jeans, but it won't come out of there with sufficient ease to suit me. For most of us the lines on the graph cross at a 2" S&W J-frame, usually a lightweight model. The little five shooters are optimal, with a speed strip or two in the opposing pocket "just in case." A decent pocket holster makes this all much more effective, not to mention safer, and the DeSantis Nemesis is an excellent product for the money.

And pants, too. Traditional fit Levis or khakis = NG for most; painters pants might work for some...

I am tall and fairly lean. Wrangler Riatas, at least on me, are best for pocket carry of the SP101. Another good option is Diamond Gusset Jeans, made in the USA, BTW. I think mine were the relaxed fit. Mine finally wore out, and they became puppy bedding, so I need to order another pair.

I think a lot of folks want to carry a gun that is completely invisible, otherwise they think they are being 'made'.

the printing is quite prominent (although the pocket holster breaks up its outline so it is not obviously a gun).

I don't care if it looks like I have something in my pocket. I carry all kinds of stuff in my pockets when I don't have a gun there (that's one reason I love carpenters jeans, and cargo pants. Lots of pockets). At various times, I carry flashlights, a huge keychain with a ton of keys, cell phone, pocket knives, PDA, various tools, money clip, etc. Nobody has ever asked my what all that stuff is in my pockets. So sometimes it's a gun. As long as it doesn't look like a gun, no biggie. I've been carrying a while. I'm pretty comfortable with it.

It's all about what folks are comfortable with.

DMK,

I agree 100%, there is no way to put a larger gun in your pocket without someone thinking something is in there.

A holster is there to hold the gun in the same position so that it is where you need it when you do, and to help break up the pattern of a gun.

NO! I have an SP101 and mostly wear dress slacks for work, the sp101 is just waaay to heavy, and prints horribly. Hell, in a pair of dress slacks even my keys look like crap in my pocket (all 3 of em). Best carry for total concealment with tucked in dress pants is smartcarry.

Although, I don't use it that often, when I carry my sp101 I usually carry OWB under one of those fitted dress shirts that are meant to be untucked. That is primarily how I carry it. I also do this with my other auto's IWB. This also hides plenty of spare mags and the cell phone.

I have carried the sp101 in my cargo shorts and it works ok, just not in the lower pocket, it thumps around too much and bangs against your knee. It will work up a rash right quick.

I think it can be done, but not optimum.

Above is the link to the best Covert Kahki pants I have found. Top quality, thick material wat generous pockets, several covert pockets and your SP or many other lager guns will just flat out disappear in these front pockets.
