can anyone suggest a good pistol rest? It's time I finally got one. Thanks in advance.

I bought a metal one at Cabelas - it has adjustable screws on the
tripod legs for leveling, and the U shaped yoke where a
sandbag ( you have to fill it with sand ) is adjustable for hight It
was $50. However it wasn't a good one for a trip to the
range because of it's weight.

I also got the Starline sandbag set when I ordered some
brass from them. One sandbag is rectangular
and flat, the other one is the same size at the base
but rises some 6 or more inches with a U shaped top
It is easy to stow them in my range bag and use them
I think the set is $20 - they have a yellow starline logo
on black.

Unless you plan on spending serious money on something heavy and stable to really hold the pistol (think Ranson rest) then I agree that sandbags are really easy to carry and you can really brace your handgun for a stable platform.

With the others you are holding anyway, so what is the advantage of those over a sandbag?
