I am in a league that uses 22's for pin knockdowns not off the table
What ammo would best accomplish the knockdown. I have a S&W model 41
thanks

IMO it doesn't matter what ammo you use as long as its accurate enough so you can hit the pin in the top half and vertical center. I've used standard velocity Winchester and it worked as well as the JHP's I'd tried at a previous shoot, maybe a bit better since there was less recoil so recovery for the next shot was a slight bit faster.

Unless the pins are real light and more of a challenge to hit it rather than to knock it over, I would go for the heaviest ones with the flattest point to reduce ricochets. I wonder if you could file the tips flat with out messing up accuracy. Would have to be true/square or it would be a flyer.

Most of the 'hi velocity' ones seem to only be only using a lighter bullet for the increase in speed.

I thought of cci stingers but didn't know if lighter weight and higher velocity would just go into pin and not knock it down perhaps a flat nosed bullet would have more knockdown power I am presently using cci mini mags

Wow, bowling pin shoots with a .22! Sounds like a real challenge. I would go with a solid, flat-nosed hyper velocity round. The flat tip may or may not help, but you can use all you can get.

I use CCI Minimags in most of my .22's.

Believe it or not, but I was doing just that (knocking down bowling pins), just a few months ago at the range. I was shooting my Ruger Mk.II 5 1/2" bull barrel pistol, using Wolf Match Target 40 gr. lead ammunition. I was pretty much aiming for the head of the pin, or the neck, as I figured this would give me the best spot for tipping them over. And I was even more amazed when it worked.

Maybe some of the heavy stuff Aquila loads if it shoots well in your pistol.

CCI would have my vote.

It's been since the early 90's, but I've shot BP's with my High Standard. I was successful using 'standard velocity' lead bullets. Did have to hit them in the top half. Like you said 22s just had to knock them over. Timed fire with 5 pins. (so revolvers could compete) centerfires had to knock them off a 4X8 sheet. 22's won hands down. Sure was hard to get them off that 4X8
