Is anyone here loading for this round? I just was looking through the Hodgdon site and it looks like a simple and more than adequate round for 200 round deer or coyotes even farther. Anyone have experience and if so please share the good, bad, or ugly.

Is that the same as 6mm TCU? The TCU cartridges are simply .223 Remington cases necked up to 6/6.5/7mm.

6TCU (including 6.5mm TCU and 7mm TCU) have been popular pistol silhouette cartridges for a long time.

The 6x45mm keeps the same shoulder angle as the parent .223 Rem. case the TCU cartridges use a different angle. The Hogdon load data starts out with a C.O.A.L. of 2.260 " and when going to heavy bullets gets longer. This will work fine if you have bolt action with enough free bore to seat out farther, but for the AR15 is a problem with cartridges fitting in the magazine.

The Sierra 5th edition manual list many loads for the 6x45mm and they will all fit to AR mag length. This is a great wildcat to get your feet wet on it is really easy to prep the cases just one pass through the sizing die and the case is formed. As far as load data I have used what Sierra recommends and did not exceed their loads. Out of my 20" barrel was getting 2700 f.p.s. with the Sierra 85 grain gameking bullet.

I have to agree with jrumsey. The 6X45 is a great starting wildcat- easy to load. I built my 6X45 on a CZ 527 donor. I built it for a lt. deer and coyote rifle. Drop me a note asto your idea of a new rifle. I have some actual load data and other info on the 6X45.

In the 1970s, a friend of mine had a benchrest rifle chambered for 6 x 45. In those days, it was a fully competitive BR cartridge. Nowadays, it probably won't outshoot a 6mm BR, but few cartridges will.

Very nice, accurate cartridge.
