Looking for loading data using Ramshot Competition or Accurate S1000 powder. Will be using 185/200g SWC at target velocity. Thanks Erod

I have shot Berry's 185 Gr SWC with Competition and WLP primers @ 1.190 O.A.L.

I shot up to 5.1 Grs. Competition, a bit much. I settled on 4.7 Grs which gave an Avgerage of 897 FPS from a "fast barrel" 1911. It would be 25 to 35 FPS slower in my other 1911's.

Start at 4.4 and work up to 4.7 (or less)

This load is not in any load book. I have never seen any .45 ACP data anywhere using Competition so use at your own risk.

Solo 1000 was almost identical in burn rate to 700X back in the day. Be carefull. ;)
Use this advise at your own risk as well.

It is a good clean burning powder. I have burned a lot of Solo 1000 in .38 Spl, but bought 700X when it was gone because it was hard to find and 700X works very well also. It was the cats meow in .44 Spl with lead bullets.

I have a data sheet I picked up with a can of Solo 1000 back when it was Scot Solo 1000, distributed by Austin Powder Company. This data sheet is at least 15 years old, so with that mentioned here is what they have listed as MAX loads from back then:

185 JHP 5.4 grains 878 fps 17,000 CUP

200 JHP 5.2 grains 866 fps 19,200 CUP

230 LRN 5.0 grains 859 fps 19,100 CUP

230 FMJ 4.7 grains 728 fps 17,500 CUP

In my own experience, I found this powder to provide very accurate 230 grain loads, but can not comment on accuracy of the lighter weights. I would think they too would be very accurate as well, just by virtue of it's burning rate and load density. I can tell you if cleanliness after use is a priority, few others are "cleaner" than this single based propellant.

Good luck.

If your looking for a good wadcutter load try 3.8 - 4.0 grains of Solo 1000, I don't have any info on the Ramshot.
