Has any one ever used the new fleckstone finish on a synthetic stock and if so how would it hold up on a deer rifle. Also how would I go about painting a gun with checkering, becuase from what i can see on the can top it come out thick and gritty? Also I really dont care about covering the complete stock I just want some color and texture to hide some scratches, kind like a spider wed design stock but not.

Actually, I think Krylon has a new paint in a spray can that bounds with plastics. Might want to look into that.

A fellow rangemember allowed me to examine his gun, a Remington mod 700 done with the fleckstone type finish. It looked very nice. His main complaint was that it did not stand up very good to wear. It was easy however to repaint those worn areas.

The stuff is pretty thick, so you can forget about seeing any checkering. The surface is rough enough so that you won't need checkering.

A shooting buddy had done a Ramline with black Rust Oleum Textured paint, and it looked very good. I've since done an M1A GI fiberglass stock with it, and it looks fine. The texture has a fine pebbled texture which allows good gripping but isn't abrasive to face or hands.

Time will tell about durability, but so far, so good.

I used Rustoleum High Temp BBQ Black on my L1A1 and it held up on both the metal and other places.
I did give it 4-5 days to dry, though. After that, it simply wouldn't come off.

Does anyone know of anice aftermarket stock thats textured for around 100.00 bucks? Or does anyone have any opinions on the hogue overmold stock?

If Hogue makes a stock for the rifle in question, my opinion is that they are a good stock.
Another option for finish is the pickup bed spray lining found at the automotive stores. The finish is tough and not too abrasive.
I used DupliColor brand on 3 stocks with total satisfaction.
I fogged over the finish with Krylon Satin Hunter Green and it looks pretty good!

My Ruger 10/22 with a druganov stock and my Savage Striker pistol. I posted pictures of them on here and was accused of crimes against nature. I primed with hunter gren krylon then used the hunter green fleckstone then put on about 7 coats of clear gloss., I think they look just fine.

As far as durablility goes, my Savage has been through numerous trips to the range, two deer seasons and a West Texas turkey / feral hog hunt and is still holding up good.
I took the prepped stock to a body shop and had it sprayed with self-etching primer before painting. Cost me a case of Bud.
