I bought a single six today (my first wheelgun) and I'm intending on putting some aftermarket grips on it. I really like the looks of the Hogue models, especially in walnut. Problem is, nobody has good pictures so I can't get an accurate idea of what it will look like. If anybody on here wants to post pictures of their Single Six (or other Ruger SA) with some aftermarket grips, I'd appreciate the help!:)

The 7 1/2" .45 has Hogue grips that have been sanded down to thin them a little. The other 3 have Eagle Gunfighter grips. The smooth Hogue grips allow the gun to rotate under recoil. The checkered Gunfighter grips keep the gun anchored in the hand.

Both of the above were made by Bearpaw grips.

Thanks guys. The walnut grips posted by stormspotter are exactly the look I want for my gun.

Edit: I just noticed Bearpaw grips are pretty local to me. I just bought a pair of their grips off of ebay. Gotta love supporting a smaller local outfit.

This Blackhawk .357 was my first pistol. 2 years ago I sent it to David Clement who converted it to .44spl and prettied it up a bit. I added the brass grip frame and panels.

I mean...who else buys an SA with the goal of CCWing it, and then customizes it specifically to that end?

:)

(Or I guess I should say: )

As an aside, putting the..."psychological warfare" on was easy: use putty epoxy to flatten and "plug" the ejector end, print and cut out the design, lay fingernail polish across the end (let the epoxy dry first!) and then more fingernail polish on the design.

Jim, Did you make the front sight? I like it! Not many of these younger fellers with autos that hold half a box of cartridges and 3 or 4 extra mags have ever seen a man use a single action that really knows how:uhoh::)

I had it installed custom by a small local sight-specialist smith in the Seattle area.

He had enough problems with it he swore he'd never do another :).

Anyways. I took it to a range, shot 135gr loads at a target and brought it back to be milled and dialed in perfectly. It shoots anything from 125gr to 158 reasonably well, does it's best with 135/140.

Since you're specifically looking for grip pics.. Here's some pics of my SBH wearing Badger Custom oversized walnut grips.

Now that's interesting. I assume that's on an XR3-RED grip frame?

Is the backstrap exposed with that setup?

What I'd do is, I'd chop it short at the bottom in line with the grip frame, and then round the bottom rendering it capable of a pinkie-under hold. I've been considering this with a Badger for some time, while swapping to an aluminum XR3-RED grip frame to cut some of the NewVaq's major weight.

How are those oversize grips in the hand? More comfortable than stock?

Jim: I'm not sure of the designation spec for the grip frame. What I can say though is Badger says these grips are for "Blackhawk, Single Six, Old model Vaquero, New Model Super Blackhawk w/ Round Trigger Guard (except Hunter model), Will not fit New Vaquero or 50th Anniversary"
And yep, the backstrap is exposed. The grips extend down past the grip frame about 1/2".
Basically I just called up Badger and said, "Send me something to fit this gun for my gigantic hands", and this is what I got. I actually wanted rosewood, but these were already made so I took 'em.

betes: They certainly are for me. I can't really speak for anyone else, but I find the stock grips to be extremely small and uncomfortable in my hands. To be fair though, gunfighter grips are meant to be held and feel a certain way.. one which I've found I'm not fond of. (This is my only single action gun, I'm a Smith wheelgun guy) Of course this is a .44mag gun though, and the stock grips were hell on my palm.

hexidismal: yup, XR3-RED is Ruger's code for that grip frame. Thanks.

Gunsnrovers - Any idea where the Bale/Loop came from? I'd love to add them to my Blackhawk's..
