454 Casull/Lil'Gun Cast Info Request

I have been shooting cast bullets for my 454 SRH. Currently loading a Keith-style 255 grain SWC over 9.3 grains of Trail Boss at an estimated velocity of around 1000fps for plinking. It pretty much comes close to filling the cases after the bullet is seated, so I don't think I can go much faster with this powder (chosen to make double-charging impossible). But I'd like to have a load using Lil'Gun powder with the same bullet at 1400fps for deer hunting. All of the manufacturer loads listed are for either jacketed bullets or for much heavier cast bullets. Anyone have a reliable load for 255SWC/1400fps?

12 grains of Herco or WSF in a .45 Colt case will get you about 1300 fps, and you've got a lot of pressure headroom left for a .454. Maybe try about 14 grains of Herco in .454 brass and see what you get. Do you have a chronograph? (in about a week I'll have my Quickload software and can calculate it :)

OK, Lyman's #48 has some data for 255 SWC. OK this is irritating; I can't get the columns to line up because the whitespace is getting compressed even if I try using Courier font:

13.0 Bullseye 1395 fps 38000 C.U.P. (this is a max load for some reason)
14.2 Unique 1424 fps 36400 C.U.P. (max load)
21.7 2400 1441 fps 25300 C.U.P. (minimum load)

Use .45 Colt data as a guide. The Hodgdons data for .45 Colt lists 25.5 grains of Lil Gun under a 250 grain XTP at 1410 fps, and the Taffin load in the linked article below got 1453 fps (again, in a .45 Colt case) with 25 grains of Lil Gun under a 265 grain Keith style.

http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0BQY/is_8_47/ai_76558929

The 25 grain load in .45 Colt is around 29k or 30k CUP. 25 grains of Lil Gun in the .454 case will be a bit less pressure, but should keep you at a high enough pressure to get a good burn.

Not sure of loads with the Lil gun, but H110 is great in the 454. I use home cast 310 graing LFN with 30.5 grains of H110. Have not run through the chronograph, but accuracy is great. Hold on>

Be very careful reducing the Lil Gun loads to get that velocity in your .454 ! i began to see some vertical stringing of shots when i went under 26 grains ,but I was using only 200 grain bullets ! I have since switched to a different powder( Imr 800X ) for this appllication ! I love LilGun with the heavier bullets or hotter loads ! Kevin

Lil'Gun and 296 are too bulky to get maximum performance in the .454. Power Pistol, AA#7, and AA#9 look really good in QuickLoad.

I have used AA7 and H110 in my .454 SRH with good results.

Thanks for all the info, guys. I've been giving 2400 a second look. Anyone have any Casull full power load/experience for this powder?
