I am the kind of person that goes to Hooters for the food and ambience. I like gunshows better though. You cant take a Hooters girl home, but you can take any rifle you want home from the gunshow and won't have to worry about a possible divorce. Usually I just take my wife to a restaraunt of her choice to smooth the transition, I gotta eat too so why not. I was wondering if some of you folks would post pics and tell about your favorite rifle. I will try to get a picture of my baby posted too.:D

I'm still working on mine. I'm working on a really.. crazy.. project with a Savage Mark II. Lots of custom made parts, all painted up pretty. It should be awfully sexy in the end. I'm not going to ruin it by posting it till its complete though. Otherwise I don't have anything particularly unusual or dressed up.

Here is my Remington model 700 SPS Varmint. It is chambered in .308 and has a 26 inch heavy barrel. The stock is a bell and carlson varmint/tactical with the vertical grip and aluminum block bedding. The scope is a Burris Extreme Tactical, 3-12x50mm with 30mm maintube and mil-dot reticle. The rings are Burris Signature dual dovetail and Burris bases.

The Barry Manilow of rifles, a 1/2 action Martini with exposed center hammer, very svelte stock, c. 1875, the case colors have faded but she is still a fine piece of steel and walnut.

Yup. Swapped the stock with a USGI refinished one and have shot the livin' bejeezus out of it. Never missed a beat. Have let a lot of kids shoot it as their first intro to a centerfire rifle (great step up from a .22LR).

Bazooka Joe71, I've got a question about your RRA CAR-15: I'm thinking about buying their Entry Tactical AR, I was wondering if your front sight interferes with the red dot site at all, i plan on buying a Leupold CQ/T for mine when I get it, but I want to find out if I'll wind up seeing the front sight when I look through the scope.

Actually, the only differance between your AR and the one I want is the scope.

that is my third rifle, its not finished yet, it is a savage model 12bvss in .308win, it has the ultimate sniper stock and a SWFA 16X super sniper scope in leopold mounts and rings, it also has a black-hawk cheek pad. currently it shoots about 1/2-3/4 MOA with match ammo, it still needs to be duracoated.

I know the picture was not you...If it was your are quite famous considering I have seen that picture everywhere...I know exactly what your point was(quite funny)...I'm just saying making fun of a fat kid isn't exactly "high road" stuff.

Don't get me wrong, the picture with that heading is quite funny, just not exactly for this site.:)

Bushmaster M4A3 "Patrolan's Carbine" 5.56 NATO (my newest, and sadly still unfired.I think its pretty darn sexy though. The scope does not reside on the carry handle permanantly. Its on quick disconnect rings and will only go on when shooting long range (and may go on the flattop instead of the handle in that case anyway. We'll have to see.Not sue if I like the way it looks on the handle, or how comfortable it will be there when shooting))

Darthbauer,

^Are you in the service?

No. Due to a knee problem that only bothers me maybe once a year I can not be. Just an armed citizen ready to defend myself and my family.

Remington M700 AICS...its not mine but its really fun and I want one. And yes thats me.

r
eminds me of this lol

(Insert chubby kid here)

So are people calling me fat or what? Im freaking lost...

No...They are not calling you fat(See how I say "they" instead of "we" because I am not apart of the poking fun, just a guy trying to make you not as confused)

Oregonhunter was just making a little joke about how you are not in the military(like the chubby kid) but have all of the getup like are you(like the chubby kid)

It had nothing to do with your size, nor the kid's size...It's more about the heading of the picture.

Quote:

^ and what does this mean?

iamkris was making a joke about being a "mall ninja" (http://www.thehighroad.org/search.php?searchid=3432786)

I seriously believe they weren't trying to attack your character, or your physique. They were just cracking a joke, and you were thinking along different lines(fat, instead of mall-ninja-ish)

Hope that helps

Kentucky Smith or iamkris
(advice from anyone is welcome):

Let's say that you bought your first gun about three months ago, an M-1 Carbine built by Kahr. Your previous gun experience was owning a bolt-action, single-shot Savage .22. Until recently, I only fired guns twice or three times since 1985. No exaggeration except for about twice shooting my friend's AR-15 recently and his Walther .22.
Impressive and THEY never jam.

The M-1 Carbine is brand new from a popular gunstore here and out of each 3-5 rounds, one fails to load up into the chamber. A problem round is usually cocked up at an angle, still partly in the magazine. Most of the time, pulling the bolt back again hooks the shell and it goes in. The shorter magazine came with the gun (the large 30-round mag. which I paid for at the same store is worthless-few rounds make it into the chamber, if at all...but let's forget about that). The gun is cleaned and oiled after almost each firing. To emphasize, I have no knowledge of "autoloaders" at all (mag. springs etc)-and the gun was new. Have no knowledge of gun parts, in general.

You leave the gun with the gunsmith....now he does not work FOR the gunstore, but his shop is in back. The gun has been there about two-three weeks with no word. Maybe four...I can't remember how long.
Keep in mind, I've never dealt with a gun store or a gunsmith before the last three months (except for a minor adjustment on the .22), and have only left the (experienced) gunsmith one message about 5 days ago, asking him what is happening-not wanting to sound impatient, demanding or bug the guy. I feel like a guy who is on a horse and has only ridden horses a few times. They can sense it.

How long do you wait before calling again? How long would the gun's warranty last? When the gun was dropped off, his first request was to see a box of ammo, because he wondered whether a "hotter load" might be needed. He speaks very little. Gave him the empty box of (110-grain) Rem. copper jacket ammo from the store.

What would you do now-wait until the gun has been there a month?
I feel like something is just not right :scrutiny:and maybe I should have bought a Ruger mini-. People say that they are very reliable, but I wanted a classic, RELIABLE lower-cost US military rifle with a wooden stock which fires lower-cost ammo.
Do brand-new Kahr carbines have a questionable reputation, and if so, is it deserved?

You guys have some beautiful guns up there.
To paraphrase some guy on the History Channel who discussed the AK-47:
I sincerely hope some of you guys live near us whenever "western civilization has a melt down" (it might have already begun...).

iamkris
January 15, 2008, 02:51 PM
Not sure why you asked me the question specifically but I'd be happy to give you my opinion...and it will be worth every penny you paid for it ;)

Impressive and THEY never jam.

First, SOME examples of ANY gun will jam. Just because the examples you've shot don't doesn't mean that none of them will. As they say in the more geeky professions..."one point doesn't make a line"

A problem round is usually cocked up at an angle, still partly in the magazine. Most of the time, pulling the bolt back again hooks the shell and it goes in.

There could be a bazillion (approximately) reasons why this is going on. However, the first thing you should ALWAYS suspect with an autoloading firearm is the magazine. You should obtain a high quality, USGI 15 round magazine (or a few) and try it. If you still have this problem it could be such things as a burr on the extractor, a rough bolt face, out-of-spec parts. It could also just be normal "break in" of a mechanical device that, 200 or so rounds later, works itself out and goes away.

the large 30-round mag. which I paid for at the same store is worthless

IMHO if a M1 Carbine mag isn't USGI or foreign military, it's a waste of money.

The gun has been there about two-three weeks with no word. Maybe four... He speaks very little.

In his defense, I don't know many gunsmiths worth their salt that don't have a pretty sizeable backlog. 3-6 weeks isn't uncommon. That said, a lot of people don't like local gun shops/gunsmiths because, while they may know guns, certainly do not know business. Concepts like customer service and communication are foreign to them. They should at least be able to give you an estimate of timeframe.

his first request was to see a box of ammo, because he wondered whether a "hotter load" might be needed.

That concerns me that this was his first thought...it is certainly one of the things that you'd look at but it concerns me that this is the first thing he went for.

My recommendations:

Ask for a timeframe that they'll be able to look at it
Try new mags
Ask what the gunsmith looked at...if he didn't look at mags, extractors, bolt face, etc...get the gun back and move on
If they can't solve it, you should be looking to Kahr for the answer

M1 Carbines are a lot of fun. I have a 1942 Inland that is a hoot.

My thoughts...

Iamkris:

I really appreciate your advice and will follow all of it when I have a few days off. The gunsmith might be one of the very best in the area.

If I decided to ship it back to Kahr, then what is required by Fedex or UPS (I've never mailed any weapon)?
Maybe Kahr's warranty would cover insurance during shipping?

iamkris
January 16, 2008, 01:43 AM
Kahr will be able to tell you and/or may have specific ways they want it shipped. But the short answer is that you can use the Post Office (must declare it as a firearm) or UPS/FedEx. Because it is going back for repair, they'll be able to ship it direct to you...no FFL required.

to The Annoyed Man, I really like your VSF! How does it shoot? I almost bought one at a major outdoor retail chain in which I shouldn't mention, ahem sportsmans warehouse ahem. Oops I let that slip sorry. Anyway, I was going to purchase that model but I wanted to know if I could purchase a 2007 model because according to the Remington website 06's used aluminum pillar bedding and in 07 they went to an aluminum block bedding which increased the price too. They said pretty much I would have to take what they have and they would not accomadate me in any way. I could only think about why would I buy a 06 rifle for an 07 price? So for 400 less I bought the SPS Varmint and settled without the fluted barrel. With the 400 I saved I bought a stock that I liked better and still came out 130 ahead. That is not including what I sold the original SPS stock for on ebay. Anyway, what do you have for optics, rings, and bases on your VSF?

How does it shoot? Well when I get time to shoot it shoots pretty good. When I was shootin regular I could make cloverleafs, I never did think to do any measuring. I had not been shooting for about six months and whe I went out I was pleasently suprised that I had lost ability to shoot but I still wasnt happy with results. That and I forgot my bean bag. I will be going out again and eventually going to a private range where I will get zero'd at 500 to 600, depending on whats available. Otherwise if I gotta make a shot and it has to hit the target without fail, I will have no problem depending on this set up.

Wow, pumpgunner, that is a really, really cool looking carbine you have set up there. I shall refrain from "lipstick on a pig" comments. :p I wouldn't do it, but very nicely done - I for one would not want to hack you off! :)

Must admit I don't understand the use of the word "sexy" in relation to guns - don't get the connection - there is nothing sexual about a gun. And as one who really likes sex, I don't want the phrase and concept corrupted. :)

Guns can be: Cool, sweet, tight, phat, dank, dope, sick, off the hook, etc. - YES. Sexy - NO.

Anyhoo I don't have any really nice ones but I have one or two that may be worth a pic, so I will put up later.

Pumpgunner870, you've actually managed to make a hi-point carbine into something aesthetically pleasing.

That's a remarkable accomplishment. Is it putting lipstick on a pig? Yes, but I bet that if you put lipstick on a pig, that pig could have three guys ask it for a date in a busy bar if the lighting was right.

Well done!
