Any military shotguns in use in the current Iraq situation? Haven't seen any on news footage.

Can't recall many, if any, photos of shotguns being used there; but have read AAR's that listed / mentioned their employment.

Right after Baghdad fell I remember seeing an Army Ranger with a Benilli M4. He was escorting some Iraqi police brass to a meeting at some hotel

My son and I think we spotted an 870 in the hands of one of our guys on news footage from a couple of days ago. He was standing at the edge of a building, or a vehicle, looking into the street with the shotgun at low ready.

I thought at first it might have been a Mossberg 590 but the receiver didn't look right.

The marines used M4 Benellis.

Not sure of any models, but a new photo book on the Iraqi war had a trooper with shotgun shells in his LBV. Didn't see the shotgun, though.

During my time in the military I'd seen everything from 1897 Trench guns to XM1114's being carried. MP's, SF, and Infantry units all carry them.

The Infantry comanies I was attached to in the 101st had two shotguns assigned but kept them in the arms rooms except when they deployed to Afghanistan. I don't know what type they were though.

I saw MP's at Ft. Campbell carrying 1897's while doing patrol of the 'back 40' during hunting season.

While in Afghanistan, I saw an XM1114 being carried by a member of an OGA team. OGA = Other Governmental Agency, read CIA, Delta, etc.. I didn't waste my breath asking him which acronym he belonged to, as I knew he wasn't about to say.

I know that MP Correction Specialists also carry shotguns while guarding POW's, I think they are primarily 870's.

I recall seeing a "on the frontlines" show with SF operators in Afghanistan, when they cleared a building the lead guy took a pistol, the second guy in line had a mossberg with the vented heat shield.

Haven't seeen a pic of guys in Iraq using scatterguns.

What exactly is a XM1114? Everything I search on just says it's a HMMV with upgraded armor.

Not suprising since the military calls everything M1, M4... etc.

I watched the war pretty closely, and I've seen a surprisingly large number of shotguns in Iraq.
Models ranged from Remington 870's to Mossberg's to at least one Benelli.

From appearances, they are being used by everybody, not just MP or Special Forces units.

Saw a neat picture of a mil-type in Iraq with a little shorty breaching shotgun hanging from his load bearing equipment.

Could that have actually been the M1014, the new Benelli shotgun?

The Marine security force at the base I work on has both Mossbergs (not sure of model, as I never got a good look at the magazine tube the day I spotted the reciever safety) and I believe Rem 870s (cause of the magazine cap design on a few of them), both models outfitted with standard black synthetic stocks. The Remingtons have normal 4+1 tubes, no extended tubes or bayonet mounts, the Mossbergs I'm not sure of because I was only upclose to one of them for a few seconds.

My apologies, I meant XM1014, not 1114. My fingers sometimes move faster than my brain. Unfortunately, the same goes for my mouth far too often.

Remember the video from the march to Bagdad where the troops are pinned under a highway overpass and the television reporter keeps the cameras rolling? If you remember one guy is shot in the leg and keeps firing back while the medic attends to him. Anyway, one guy was wounded during that exchange, but kept his shotgun and took out two Iraqis while he was being treated or carried off. I wish I had a clip of it.
