Don't know much about but I was told that my exposed hammer Marlin pump gun is no longer leagle for the shoots. It seems that the marlin has an enherent problem with there firing pins taking flight.

All the Marlin pumps were outlawed from SASS a couple of years ago. Along with the '93 Winchester pump. If you want to use a pump, you've gotta have a '97 Winchester or the Norinco version of the '97.
Don't let that stop you though, SASS is a great organization with a whole bunch of fine folks, and like any other organization in the world, a few real stinkers.
By the way, Marlin corrected that problem just a few years after the gun was introduced. I can't remember the various model numbers right off.
The '93 Winchester had the same problem, and was corrected with the '97. Both had a rather nasty habit of sending the bolt through the shooter's head.

I know a few guys into this.. I never have, and all I have that could work is mule ears boots, and my 1860 clone.. The costs are to high to add more than I do now, unless mana comes from heaven or something.

Mac, that's the drawback to SASS. Startup costs are prohibitive for a whole lot of folks. I already had a '60 and a double barrel 16. I bought an ASM revolver for around $250 and a used Rossi '92 for $250, so my startup costs weren't too bad. Clothes can be made or bought fairly reasonably, until you start getting into the fancy dress suits or uniforms. I later bought a Walker, a '97 Winchester, a hammered double 12, and an Uberti SAA, and have received a few guns for Christmas. ('51 Navy, another Walker, a Winchester '73) I traded the '97 and '73 for a couple of '87 Winchester lever action shotguns, one I gave to my brother for his birthday.
After 8 years of SASS, I'm still using the '60, the '92 and the 16 gauge. I swap around between the Uberti SAA and the others, depending on what class I want to shoot in.

Pulp, For me these costs are un-obtainium. A real no can do, but those guys who do it sure have fun. I have gone to local events to watch. Here in NH the Pemi Gun Club runs these events rather often. I have been invited to join and even try the game out, but declined.
I would be instanly hooked, and just can't do it all. I do better with less in life anyway. They have a gun each for events, as is likely you know.
Events I go to, are one and 2 gun events maybe 3 if there is a pistol.
This is a reason I would like a rifle in 62 cal, so the round ball matches my flint pistol and the smoothbore Nor' West Gun..
I get wacky when I need stuff in .40. .45, .50, .54, .60, and .735 all at the same times..plus hawks, throwing knives, other knives to do chores with, and so on.
Those cowboy action shooters do all that some how, and have cute little stands with wheels to boot.. I have no idea how they can get organized and stay organized.
Most everthing they get is store bought too, which is vastly different from F&I and Mt Men, which is more hand made and to me more affordable.
I had guys wanting me to join up in Civil War events and War of 1812 events, and I just can't deal with it all. Sometimes I go invited, and am rigged out by guys wanting me to be there. I have fun, but I know I can't do it all.
The F&I back ground I have makes me mean and hard to deal with as the opposing side see's me. Once I went on horse back with my own horse, and my 1860 colt clone as the only 2 items that were mine! LOL
I was loaned every other item I had on and the boots I had were size 12, and my feet are size 9! Damnned good thing I had a horse as walking wasn't any option. I was dubbed one of Mosesby's Boys, a real live bad ass is what the Union got too.
I was given on guy in Butternut who had a single shot enfield I think, while I had 2 colt clone 1860's, one loaned. The 2 of us went up South Mt in Md the back way over a cliff, me on the horse, and took a Union Camp at dawn.
I can assure you that Union Capt' was more than just a little upset, seeing me with 2 six shooters one holding his tent flap open, and the other pointing to the ground nearer his head side of the bed.
I said "Mornin Capt', coffee's on!" Oh was he ever grumpy.. I guess maybe those little bell wedge tents making a bell of arms wasn't such a good idea that night huh?
