This is an offshoot of the "Talk To Me About Nashville" thread.

I'm up for the weekend of August 9-10 at CWMA.

Edited to change the name of this thread; I must have slipped back in time.:)

I'm glad I checked to see if anyone else started a threasd on the get together. Thanks Glockten.

The 9th or 10th anywhere sounds good to me. What about a picnic sort of thing. shoot eat, shoot eat etc... Does the cheatam place have grills? I know silly question bu hey you never know.

I'm not too keen on returning to OH; that range officer was ready to throw everyone out over a minor infraction committed by one person.

If the target stands at CWMA are too decrepit, we can still bust clay targets on the berms.

I was giving some thought to the upcoming TN-THR Shoot, and was wondering something. How about we all do the August THR Mail-In Shoot while we're out there? It might be fun to see who's the TN Chapter of THR 'Distinguished Marksman (or person, as the case may be) of the Month'.

Just an idea. How do ya'll feel about it?

Frank

Edited to change 'Postal' to 'Mail-In'. Wouldn't want some disgruntled postal worker to come by and start shooting at us. :D

Postal Shoot?

You want us to dress up like mail carriers?:neener:

Just kidding. That sounds like an idea. I've never done the postal shoot. Never really had a chance. Sounds like this outing would provide an opportunity.

I'm in.

My vote is for the 10th. (9th is the NTPS shoot. All are welcome. Very newbie tolerant. www.ntps.org)

I have some frames we could use. They are the wire sort of H-type frames that are used for corrugated plastic signs. (you know the stuff that looks like cardboard, but is plastic). We would just need the plastic since the wife would not appreciate bullet-riddled real estate signs.

Cheatham is good even though it is short on accomodations, it is a good price- zero. That way we can buy more ammo. (I got dibs on Walmart in Ashland City:D )

Looking forward to it.

Is this invitation only, or can I bring a friend or two?

Either date should work for me.

I've never been to the Cheatham location so I'll need directions.

As for any competitive shoot, I'm quite the mediocre marksman but I'll be quite happy to come in last. :)

To someone else's comment, my experiences at Owl Hollow are mixed. Depending on when I've been there I've seen RO's get uptight over the tiniest thing and I've seen major safety violations that were ignored. (Um, excuse me, but would you mind NOT holding a loaded rifle so that it's pointing perpendicular to the firing line, more specifically at my nether regions? Thank you ever so much.) Personally I'll take the former over the latter, but whatever. I've also had plenty of completely unremarkable days there in the past.

OEF_VET
July 28, 2003, 02:29 PM
gamegod, bring as many friends as you'd like. The more, the merrier. Tell us what realtor your wife works for, and maybe we can manage to find signs that her competition just 'happens' to leave lying around.

Directions to the Cheatham range can be tricky, but doable. It may be easier to meet at a more readily identifible landmark and convoy to the range. I'll be travelling up Highway 12, from Briley Pkwy to Ashland City. Anyone coming from that area is welcome to follow me, I can alteranitively fit one person in my truck with me.

I'll be happy to print out a bunch of copies of the monthly shoot target, along with the rules for the shoot.

The August shoot isn't up yet, but should be before the 9th. I'm hoping for blackpowder revolver against charging T-rex at 10 yards, with tactical reload for follow-up shots on charging Velociraptor.

For those not knowing the way we can meet up somewhere in Nashville. Im coming from the Brentioch area so going to 65 or 24 is a mute point for me. I can meat ya in Hickory Hollow if you want to follow up. Or at Bubba's in Joelton since our co worker lives up there and likely to stop there on the way up as well. Its anyone's call. I kinda say Bubba's as its easy to find and halfway point to Ashland City.

I know Rod has some saw horses we use for target holders as long as everyone brings atleast one holder, cardboard, or clays I think we would have enough. Depending on crowd we might get a table, we might not. So people wanting to shoot 100yards from a bench might be waiting a bit sometimes. If anyone has portable seats and benches, bring them.

I perferre saturday myself, hate to exclude people, but I feel rushed on sundays too often. There are no provisons to cookout up there tho. Not even a really good place to picnic at unless its up by the ranger station. Does Ashland City have any places around the river or such? I havent looked.

And weapons.....if its legal, you can bring it :D basicly. Ill bring out my usual, which is everything. Mosin m44, hipoint carbine, sw99 in 40, 2 .22's. Anyone is welcome to shoot any of mine with or without bringing your own ammo. Just speak up and say you'd like to pull a few rounds though, I wont bite...too hard.

Well I forgot till I was reminded just a little while ago. I have a wedding to go to on the 10th. Ive shruged off weddings once or twice....but I think I need to go to this one. Even if the guy has kinda put me off lately.

But yea Ill lead up from Hickory Hollow if anyone wants. Like I said more than likey Ill be stoping in Joelton to ride with Rod up in his truck to carry the target stands and such. So either Hickory Hollow or just off the I24 at exit 31 at the gas station on the west side of the interstate. Up to everyone....

and if its Sunday Ill have to bow out...looks like its going to be one of us not being there no matter what :(

Hi everyone,

This is my first post (usually just lurk and try to soak it all up). I was out at the cheatham county range today and the target stands are dead for the pistol area (25 yards). The 50 yard is okay as is the 100. They aren't in great condition but you can still put your targets on them. Thought it might help ya'll out.

Ok, just had a thought about which day the shoot should be. Last time it was on a Sunday, how about Saturday this time?

Or did someone already pick a date and I missed it?

gamegod86
July 28, 2003, 11:18 PM
It seems that the consensus is for Saturday. I would still prefer Sunday, but, I **think** I can make it work on Saturday. If we can go after about 2ish I should be able to make it even with the NTPS shoot. I'll just skip the 2nd gun.

Anybody else bringing kids? If so, I may bring my 9 yr old son. He wants to shoot so bad he can't stand it.

The 6th is my birthday, (34th) so I told my wife that I wanted a case of 9mm and a day of shooting. Sounds like it is gonna come to pass.:D

Sounds like a ton of fun.

BTW, Moparmike, there is a motel in Joelton a couple hundred yards from ASP, the indoor range. (I-24, exit 35) It's not the Ritz-Carleton or anything, but it is convenient. (20-25 mins from the Cheatham county range)

I gotta bag full o'Glocks, a Mak-90, and a Savage .17 HMR that I will bring.

As of now, I plan to bring:

Colt Sporter
Remington 11-87
Para-Ordnance P14
S&W 686

Ok Darrin and I had an idea. Looks like there will be 3 or 4 of us at the Goodman Gun Show Saturday morning before the shoot. Anyone want to meet up at say Cracker Barrel say around 9 or so and have breakfast. There is one sorta close to the fair grounds down on Sidco drive, right off I65 at Harding Place. Somewhat out of the way for some, but its only a few mins from the fair ground. It was the closest non fast food place we all could possibly meet up at.

Go grab some biscuits and gravey, then trek over to the fair grounds around 10 or 11, give the vendors enough time to unpack fully. Then from the show head up to the range and be there at about 1.

Is there anyone that is near the range in Cheatham? Id like to know what sorta facilities there is up by the rangers station. I know there isnt much down at the range, but there is camping in the areas up the road a hair. We could go up there if there is a table or two, and eat up there and shoot the bull a little before going back down to shoot. I know I will be packing a lunch of sorts and plan if nothing else to eat off the trunk if I have to. Too many times have I been up there with no water, I usualy forget :D.

And for the ladies, remember its primative. So no place to do much more than a good "squat" if ya have to. Think up at the ranger station might be more "civilized" facilities, or at the gas station down at the entrance.

Cant wait....cause I havent got to shoot since the last meet in which I was rushed. So almost a month since I last fired a gun :(

gamegod86
August 5, 2003, 06:16 PM
I went up there today to "scout it out."

Disclaimer: Distances are approximate and recommended routes are my opinion. YMMV.:D

If you are coming from the eastern side of town, the easiest way is to come I-40 West to White Bridge Road exit. Bear to the right. This becomes Briley Parkway.

Go to the exit for Ashland City Hwy. (Hwy 12) Turn Left on Hwy 12.

At the end of the 4 lane, (as you enter Ashland City) turn left on "bypass 49." (bear to the left at screwball intersection.) This road comes to a "T" at Hwy 49. Turn left onto Hwy.49. (AKA Cumberland St.) **

Go >>>roughly<<< 3 mi. to Hwy 250. Turn left on Hwy. 250. (landmark= Two Rivers Fire Dept.)

Approx. 3.8 miles on 250 to Amoco on left.

At Amoco, turn Left (45 degrees) to Griffithtown Rd. There is a Cheatham WMA sign on the left of the road.

Go 1.3 mi. on Griffithtown Rd. Turn Left at Headquarters Rd. (gravel rd.)

Go .8 (8/10ths) mi. on HQ Rd. Range is on the left.

They have installed new target boards. (1 at 25 yd. berm, a couple each at the other 2 berms.) There are also maps of the WMA at the Amoco.

** if you prefer to go into Ashland City, turn left at the light at Hwy 49 West. (landmark= Mid-Tenn Appliance Ctr.)

Bowlcut
August 5, 2003, 06:52 PM
Good new boards are a plus. Bring staple guns or tacts for paper targets. Darrin and I will likely bring the saw horces and some cardboard for settiing up something a little closer than 25 yard pistol. If anyone else has similar devices bring them. Also bring clays if you want.

Once you go its easy to find there after. Sounds pretty complicated but its most one road, that does a dog leg in Ashland City.

August 7, 2003, 09:19 AM
He has already put his offerings up for sale and I am sure I didn't see any cheap SIGs in there. I looked.

True story. We knew a guy who's family rented a house and the renters just dissappeard, stopped paying rent etc. So he tells us they left all their stuff and that the family was just going to sell it dirt cheap to recoup the back rent. This was many moons later.

Anyway I asked what they had. He rattled off a list of things and then got to a couple of old cars and..........................................................a late 80s PORSCHE:what: Nochalantly said. Unfortunitely by the time I regained consciousness and got to the check book the family had decided to give it to Grandma as a gift.

Ahhh what are you gonna do.

I have to stop buying guns just because they are a good deal. Mark my words though I will own one example of every SIG offering with the possible exception of the assault rifles. Next on my list is either the P232, P245 or one of the older Single Action Army clones they used to offer.

Intune,

My apologies for not including you in the pm I sent with a list of weapons I'm going to try to sell. Unfortunately, three weeks of being unemployed has necessitated the cleaning out of some of my less often used weapons.

Here's the list:

Yugo M-48A Mauser $100
Jap Type 99 Arisaka $75 (I'll throw in 20 rnds of brass)
Swedish Mdl 38 Mauser $100
Marlin Mdl 60 .22 w/ scope $50 (Darrin, you still interested?)
CVA 1851 Army Blackpowder revolver $85 (with powder and accessories)

Darrin,

I'm really leaning towards parting with my M-1 Carbine. If I do, I intend to just sell it, not pawn it. I'm still not sure what it's worth though. If you want to make an offer, do so, and I'll think about it. FYI, it's a post-war Universal, and it will come with the following stuff:

BSA Red Dot scope w/ mount, I've also still got the original rear sight
sling and oiler
5 15 rnd mags
2 30 rnd mags
10 mag dustcovers
2 or 3 mag clamps (for holding the 30 rnd mags together)
stock mag pouch
belt mag pouch
plastic recoil pad that can be screwed onto stock
operator's manual

SW99 in .40 s&w, Marlin model 90 M-1 .22lr, Winchester bolt .22lr., Hi Point Carbine 9x19(now with no red dot :D thanks hi point), and my CLEAN Mosin Nagant m44 in 7.62x54r.

I will have more than enough ammo to let anyone shoot the .22's and the Mosin. Have around 200rounds left of 9x19 so that shouldnt be a problem. For the 40......if ya ask really nice ill let ya :D....as ammo for that isnt cheap. All my ammo purchases has been dirt cheap but that 40...but walmart value packs here i come.

Chris if Darrin didnt send ya my info let me know.

Oleg....come on man I keep seeing ya all over the place but never in person ;) it will be fun.

Due to various complications, I may or may not be able to show up. ...snip... Will bring a camera, of course.

Oleg, after perusing your website, and seeing your work, I would consider it a privilege to meet you. You are a very talented man. If you can find a way to attend, I am sure that more people than just me would appreciate it.

All other "fence sitters" are encouraged to attend too. It's gonna be really nice to put a face with the online personality. What about the ones from East TN??? It's not THAT far to Cheatham county!

It would be good to have at least 15-20 people. How many are coming?

BTW...for an "interesting rifle," bring a few 30-06.:D (I have a few rounds, but not very many)
