The roommates and I think owning one would be awesome. Anyone have any first hand experiences with this thing?

Looks really cool when he hits the splatter target, though .410 is generally looked down upon for self-defense and the 'wide spread immediately' isn't necessarily a good thing if the guy is 15 yards away with his own gun and you're only packing .410.

I'm sure it'd be fun and awesome to shoot, look great tearing holes in paper, though I don't think I'd pick it as my primary. though if someone wanted to give me one, I'm sure i'd fine something to sing about!

They say it's primarily for your vehicle.

In California I can't carry a loaded gun in my vehicle.

= (

But yeah, the demonstration he gave was great. Well presented, colorful, something you wont forget. But if I can have a gun in my car, I can have the gun I carry. I'm all for extra guns around though, and I'd love to shoot the judge. I mean, either way, its still a Revolver (Reliable) and a .45 (Good round) and having the option of splattering .410 in a BG is definitely not a downside.

So all in all if you want one, go for it I'd say. Of course, shoot it first, etc, but I reckon most ranges dont have them to rent.

I have yet to see why someone would want to own this. a .410 Bore slug out of a 3 inch barrel isn't going to do much damage and while the .45 Colt is a good option, there are several other guns out there that are better balanced.

I've had one for a while now, and I like it. I don't think mine would be any good in the vehicle for a couple of reasons. First, I am large enough that my arm spans from the driver's side to the passenger window in most vehicles, including my own. Second, my Judge has the long barrel on it (6 1/2" I think), so it would be hanging out the other side of the truck by the time I got it aimed.

BUT. It is a great gun for working around the woodpile. The woodpile is home to all sorts of critters, some meaner than others, but any of which can make my day an unpleasant one if it decides to try and bite me for disturbing its home.

My teenaged daughter can also handle it well, and has access to it if she needs it. Shot from a .410 may not kill someone, but sprayed in the face is going to give them second thoughts, and a couple of .45 LC rounds as follow up are definitely going to change someone's mind.

There are a lot of people here who love to hate the Judge, just as they love to hate [insert gun name here]. I do not buy my guns to gain approval of people on an internet board, I buy what I like and what works in my situation.

I have one, 3.5" barrel. To be honest, it's nothing special. Mine is not all that accurate, shoots .45 Colts high and left. The .410 spreads out very quickly. As previously stated, good gun to carry for snake control, I'll bet you could probably shoot right in front of your foot and with good boots not suffer any problems if you accidentally get sprayed with shot. Not going to try it, though!

The website, Box o' Truth, did some field testing on this and it really underperformed. I was surprised, honestly.

The best thing I can say about it: It's fun to shoot hand-tossed cans!!! My buddies really enjoy it (and I do too).

I'm fortunate that one of my buddies reloads .410 shells so the shootn' and hoot'n is pretty cheap!

For serious duty I'll stick with the Ruger BH in .45 Colt in the woods.

Even if the shot pattern only penetrates something as rediculous as say 1/2 -1 inch I dont know if anyone could handle a shot pattern to the facial area and continue fighting....

How 'bout it!?! I'd like to see someone get smacked in the eyeball with a pellet of .410 and shrug it off! Or how about right on the nose? In the lips? Anyone want to volunteer for testing?

I have two of the Taurus 45/410 model. One stays on my nightstand; the other in my office desk drawer. I believe the secret to succes with the weapon is how you load it: 1-410 6 shot; 2-410 000 buck; 2 45 long steel jacket hollow points. One warning. Two hurtem really, really, bad and bang, bang your dead.

My personal preference in my FNH 5.7x28 loaded with the SS196 armor-piercing hollow point. It will through-and-through you at 15 yards, but with 20+1, it'll get the job done right - if not the first time, by the 21st.

I would be very interested in one if it had a shorter cylinder and didn't chamber shotshells. A 45 cal compact frame snubbie CCW sounds very appealing. I have no interest in a 410 handgun though.

Unfortunately neither Taurus, nor S&W get the bigbore snubbie concept close enough to what I'm looking for.

At least its tops in its catagory.

A Woodpile Gun.

lol. I can see a bunch of little labels.

House gun
Car gun
woodpile gun
swingset gun
treehouse gun
driveway gun
neighbors house gun
garden gun
etc

sorry that made me chuckle :)

I wish I had enough money to buy single purpose guns. Man that would be sweet.

Head shots aren't the easiest things to achieve on a perp whose head is jerking about quickly. Not that I'm speaking from experience here, but that seems to be the word on the street. The head is a pretty small target when you experience adrenalin dump. And as for a shot to the face (or COM), it's effectiveness depends on who the perp is. If he's pumped up on drugs, I wouldn't bet my life on 1" of penetration. Not that I'd care to get shot with it, I'm sure it makes a nasty wound. Instantly incapacitating? Highly suspect IMO. Heck, even the stopping power of birdshot fired from a 12 gauge shotgun is questioned.

If I had a Judge, I'd stick to tried and true 45 Colt loads - YMMV.

As long as we're ring knockin

Springfield Armory TRP
Les Baer Concept and Thunder Ranch
Wilson Combat Close Quarter Combat -3- (WCQBCAS; WCQBAAC; WCQBTA)
Nighthawk Talon; 10-8; and T3
S&W Performance Center M945 (2); M952; 1911DK; and 2 1911 45s
H&K Expert; Elite
FNH 5.7x28
53 additional 357s and 44 mags
23 "other" 45s (Taurus, Kimber, Springfield Armory, Colt, CZ, S&W, etc.)
and a variety (51) of other makes, brands and calibers.
Oh yea, and a Taurus judge. I mean 2!!

And they are all fun. So, if you don't have one, haven't shot one, or haven't seen one in action, it's pretty hard to provide meaningful input.

I've never shot a man with a handgun in civilian life, but in combat when faced with that task, I chose center of mass. If I had tried a head shot, I probably wouldn't be here today.

It's no accident that both military and police -- who have a lot of real-world experience -- all recommend center of mass, not head shots (except for snipers.)
