Ok I know the ATF is weird the way they add C&R guns. That said, why is the CZ-50, CZ-52, CZ-82 all C&R guns when the CZ-70 is identical to the CZ-50. As for date of manufacture for peet's sake the CZ-82 is actually still in military issue. I like the 50 -similar to a PP but much much cheaper --but the 50's are gone. I see 70's for sale but even though the 82 is a later model the 70's are not C&R??

the way I understand it,anyone can petition the ATF requesting a weapon be granted "curio" status.if memory don't fail me the head custodian of a military museum ask for the CZ82 be placed on curio status.also ,some pistols like the Russian and East German Makrov's are C&R while the other countries Mak's are not.reason is Russia and East Germany are no longer countries thus making them "curios".so there is a certain reason to the C&R madness. jwr

What happened in the Iron Curtain days was that guns like the Soviet Makarov were extremely rare in this country, so someone petitioned for C&R status and it was granted. Then down came "The Curtain" and all of a sudden Russian Maks were dirt cheap and as common as gnats. But there is no provision for removing C&R status once granted, so they stayed on the list. The separate 50-year rule applies to individual guns, not to models. For models made before and after the 50-year break point, the seller has to prove that the individual gun was made prior to that time. BATFE does not generally obtain or supply that information, so many dealers will treat such models as non-C&R.
