I plan to shorten a spare barrel like the one shown in the photo. The barrel tapers, so the front sight has a riser to raise the bead. I am not sure what to use for a front sight. (The barrel will be shortened for home/personal defense purposes.)

What type of replacement sight is high enough to be usable after I shorten the barrel? Should I try to salvage the original sight, or is there a replacement out there that is more than just a bead? If I'm going to re-use the current sight, how would I get it off - is it soldered on? How can I tell?

And if I have to drill/tap the barrel for a replacement, do I drill/tap all the way through and then shorten the screws so they're flush?

There silver soldered on, if the barrel dia. is the same from where the front sight now sits to where you want it after the barrel is shortened, it should work.
1100 barrels if i remember are the same dia. from the forearm out to the front sight.
It will take enough heat to loosen the solder, use a torch and just heat the sight, the beads are pressed into the base but you can set them up for a drill and tap sight.
We do this for about $35.00 but shipping it in is way to expensive. I do have a couple of extra beaded base sights if you need them. i'll just send them to you if the need comes up, let me know. Paul.
