How's everyone? I have a question. I have a Marlin 917V that I simply love, but I want the trigger pull to be lighter. I have heard of the pen-spring trick, but I don't know how exactly to do it. Also, I have considered polishing-not sanding or grinding-the area of the trigger that slides against the receiver. I would like an adjustable trigger, like the Basix, but that is out of the ?, and I want to do it myself. Any suggestions?

The reason the trigger is tough is because Marlin cuts them with a positive engagement angle so pulling the trigger has to cock the hammer/striker a little before it will fire. You need to have the sear and hammer/striker faces cut to a neutral engagement angle and re-hardened. After that the trigger on a Marlin will be smooth as silk.

Or a Rifle Basix adjustable trigger:

King Joey ... how to you "reharden" a trigger after stoning the faces of the sear and stiker faces? Unless you heat it up on a grinder or something - rehardening is not necessary - is it?

Seriously - someone educate me on this one.
