Is there a mod that allows mags to drop freely when the mag release is depressed?

The magazine disconector, located behind the trigger, rubs on the face of the magazine. You can:
Polish the shoe and magazine face to reduce friction so that the magazine drops free.
Remove the magazine disconector, after which the magazine will drop

As Old Fuff said the mag safety is what makes them hang up.
To remove it heres a link to a tutorial on the 1911 forums.

The only other way for them to drop free is to use the magazines for the practical that have the spring built into the back of the magazine. But your way better off ripping the mag safety out.

The easiest thing to do is remove the mag disconnect as Old Fuff said.
This will also lighten and smooth the trigger pull.
On most of the BHPs this takes only a few minutes to do. It is easily replaced should you wish to do so in the future.
If you find the trigger pull still to stiff put in a 26 lb hammer spring. That is the original spring weight.
Removing the mag disconnect and the 26 lb spring make a world of difference.
