Stylus Sized Kubaton

January 18, 2008, 01:05 AM
Here's a handy little tool we have been working on for a while. Just today we finished the first run of them. It is a reinforced polymer stylus that doubles very nicely as a kubaton. It's 3/8" dia. x 6" long. We wanted to make something that would be very unassuming yet incredibly strong. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. Just for fun today we took 1 of them and hammered it through a 1/2" sheet of plywood to see how it would hold up. It went through it like butter and didn't even mark it up. :D

What a great idea. And if you could somehow mold or drill out a central channel to make it into the polymer pen-kubaton that we discussed in the last thread, that would really be something.

Thank you. We are going to be concentrating on a pen as soon as our workload gets manageable. I think I'm too optimistic about getting things done. I thought these stylus's were going to be ready about 2 months ago but other stuff kept getting in the way. :cuss:

I'm liking it. Please keep me in the loop! :)

Looks good! What colors can you add to the polymer during molding?

I know that it looks "tactical" black, but if it were blue, yellow or red, it would be immediately dismissed by anyone seeing it as nothing more than a Bic.

International safety orange is always good. I have a couple of Monadnock Persuader 2 kubatons in bright neon orange. I have one on my keyring, and it sure makes finding the keys a lot easier.

I can do almost any color. The only problem with it is that I would have to run ( and sell ) about 500 of that color to justify the expense of it and there never seems to be a consensus on any 1 color other than black. The next time I do a run of them I'll see if I can get the molder to stick it in at the end of a run they are doing in another color. Maybe I can get them to run just 50 or 100 of them.

Try to get the molder to put it in at the end of a run and hold for the first little bit of the next run using a different color.

Kewl - how can I GET ONE ?

I've been using this for 2 months now, multiple airplane and court scans and never a second glance. And it writes :-)

Just a thought,

I have been testing the LCP pen out also...I have got a few sharp people who want it taken apart but for the most part it gets in....but at 40.00 my cost and up to 100.00 retail its a bit pricey .I think the 7.00 stylus may have the edge in few ways .If Jeff designed a pen I know it would sell like mad.:D

I hear you may have other cool items in the works....:neener:

My LCP went through all the checks through airports and checkpoints riding in the placket of my polo and almost made it back. On the 6th checkpoint at KWI it "somehow" didn't make it though the conveyor and I was in too much of a hurry heading for the midnight flight to Dulles to stop and look for it (or ask the security officer if he had any idea where it went ).

The lead at TDI likes his as well.

That said, it's a bit pricey.

I really would like to concentrate on a pen, I've just got to find the time to start in on it.

The sylus has 2 people in mind, 1] LEO's with touch screen computers in their squad cars and, 2] Anyone with a handheld device. They are designed very simply so as not to attract any unwanted attention. When clipped in a shirt pocket they look just like a pen and even if they are inspected closer they will easily pass as a stylus and nothing more ( which is what they are ). The fact that they can double as a very effective, incredibly strong kubaton is just a bonus :D.

Al, who do hear these rumors from? I am neither confirming nor denying them, I just want to know where the leak is coming fro. If it IS true they will be shipped to you in a drill, lathe, sander, buffer and paint resistant material so you will not be tempted to 'modify' any design we may have in the future :neener: I have found you to be highly unreliable in leaving original designs alone.

"I have found you to be highly unreliable in leaving original designs alone".

Thats one of the best darn compliments I have gotton...THANKS:D

The leak....ahhh Well I :uhoh: well uh FORGOT !:D

I can't win with you :banghead: I'll bet we've got some items in the works that even you don't know about. :D

January 24, 2008, 09:10 PM
I cant wait to see them...knowing your designs and mfg are of the highest quality,I know it will be some very cool items.:D

Al -
You should be receiving something in the mail in the next day or 2. :o I sent it out to you on Tuesday. Let me know what you think once you've reviewed them but before you've doctored them. :uhoh:

January 25, 2008, 02:52 AM
:) Will Do .

I got the styli today.

Very Tough ...more on this later....Yes I gave it a few torture tests.

Wife grabbed one right away...She liked the diameter as her hand is tiny and most normal size kubatons are to big for her to grab with comfort.....:D

I hate to use my fingers to push public buttons on vending machines, atms, debit machines at stores,etc...To many germs transfer this way.

Stylus worked great for this as I went about my day.

I use my keys, pen, etc for this use normally, but the stylus seems to grab the buttons much better. Not so much as a eyebrow was raised at any store as I used the kubaton in this way.

stylus and some other "pens".

January 26, 2008, 06:58 PM
Mine is supposed to be enroute....right Jeff:)

January 26, 2008, 07:51 PM
George, it would be to you already if I could keep track of your address this week :D You are the only man I know that lives in 3 states at the same time. To answer your question, yes, it is enroute and will be in your hands early next week. Anxious to hear what you think of it.

January 26, 2008, 10:34 PM
So I am trying to decide if I should pick up a couple of the stylus kubatons, or wait to see how the pen model works out. Decisions, decisions.....

January 26, 2008, 10:40 PM
Get both, you deserve it.

January 27, 2008, 12:15 AM
For the crazy low price of the stylus kubaton ,Get 2 IMO...They would make great trainers if you decide on a pen later.

I am finding the stylus to be a excellent design..I will start another thread with my review in a couple of days...

Here is a couple of pics of a very simple pen conversion that I did to one of the stylus kubatons. It uses a common bic style insert and a modified bic cap. Works great and is dirt cheap.

The other pen in the pic...uses all the common bic pen parts but the body is made of titanium.

omcjf and al need to collaborate on a better version of "Tactical pen". They have some nice ones coming out by benchmade and Surefire. I got to fondle them @ SHOT show. They all have one thing in common, high price$$. Yes, I know it is a "Tactical" defense product and it cost more $$ to produce. But lets not forget that it's still a pen and the price should not approach that of a tactical knife or gun. What next tactical toilet paper in digicam @ $50.00 per roll??:D omcjf has a great product @ a very fair cost. I will be waiting for alphainnovations to produce a tact pen before spending $$ w/ those other companies.
