When my grandfather died about 10 years ago my grandmother gave me his Beretta shotgun. We used to hunt pheasants and rabbits with it when I was little and he said he wanted me to have it before he died. Here's what I know about it: My grandmother (they came to the US in 1951) thinks he bought it in Italy and had it shipped here sometime in the late 60's/early 70's. She gave me the paperwork that she thought it came with (pictures that I will try and attach).

I don't know anything about it other than my parents said they got it appraised after he died and the guy said it was worth $15,000. i know it's a Beretta, but that seems high to me. If figured maybe $1,500 seems more like it, not that I'd ever sell it in a million years.

I'm just curious about what model it is, how much it's worth for the heck of it and any other info I could find out about it. My son's 7 now and one day it'll be his gun.

Thanks a lot.

It's beautiful whatever it is.

Ditto that:)

Any chance we could see some "art for art's sake" pics of the gun? Looks like really good photo fodder.

Also, I'd sooner bet on the fifteen grand mark. Beautiful vintage double, import, original paperwork, engraving, looks to be in really good condition. . . Oh yeah. That's worth some dead presidents:)

Why don't you email the information to Beretta? The only model I can find like that is the 424 which is almost identical to yours. Perhaps it was a model not available in the US.
In regards to the value, just like my grandfathers Belgium Browning A5, it's priceless. But the $1500 ballpark price sounds accurate.

I tried to call Beretta and send them pics and what not to see if they could help. They basically told me they don't appraise or give info out on older guns and to go through a dealer. Problem is no dealer I've ever spoken too has recognized it. It may be becasue he bought it in Italy and not here.

Its a base model Side by side, I have the same gun in 20 gauge with a single trigger. I believe the "name" was the silverhawk. Even if its grampa shotgun and they are willing to give you 15 grand take it and run, your grampa would be happy. I paid 325 dollars for mine in about 1995, current might be 800. MAYBE, yours has some wear on it, somedamage to the wood at the wrist and a little finish damage at the box.

Beretta re introduced the name silverhawk on the new 470 line and attached it to a 2700 to 3500 dollar gun. The gun you have is no where near that level of a gun.

HOWEVER< that said, my silverhawk is my favorite shotgun for grouse and woodcock because who ever cut the stock on this thing used my body for the fitting. It fits me like a glove, accurate, and fast to shoulder, so its worth more to me than some others which do not shoot as well for me.

If you have a Cabelas near by they have that little section up front
with all the fine guns. They call it a gun library. I will attach the link
just scroll down it is on the left side. You can see if there is one
near you and take the gun in there for a look.

it is rare that anyone asks a question i can answer. thanks!:)
you have a beretta model 425, introduced in 1964 and not in the catalogs after 1971. made in 12 bore only, 2.75 inch chambers only, 26/28/30 inch barrels available. hand engraved. the model 426 is an upgraded version of the 425 with more figured wood and so on.
it is a well-made beretta of the 1960s period. a boxlock. however, it is not worth $15000- your guess is closer, but i have not seen one for sale lately.
you have a wonderful keepsake.
God Bless
