Yeah, that's pretty much the question. Does anybody make a .22LR shotshell which will cycle, say, a 10/22's action? It seems to be a pretty universal caveat.

My other question is: Why don't they?

I tried it once just for kicks with the CCI 22lr shotshells, it was difficult to get it into the 10/22 mag and with the square front it simply would not feed. Most autoloaders need the round to be round in the front.

I suppose if a MFG tried to make a round front shotshell it would feed.

the next question is if it would have enough oompf behind it to cycle the action reliably even if the feeding issues were solved.

Edit: this got me thinking... there are crimped shotshells that might work:

I've asked before, and tried every brand I can find in a 10/22, Erma EM-1, and Marlin 60. No dice, the fastest vermin-killer with shotshells has remained my Marlin 39A.

No, they do not make a .22 LR shotshell that will cycle a semi-auto action.

Q. Why?
A. Because the shot charge is so light, it basically provides almost zero recoil to operate the action.

Q. Why not make the shot charge heavy enough to get the recoil up then?
A. Because it is a .22 LR.
There isn't enough room for more shot without making it much longer.
If it was much longer, it wouldn't feed through a .22 LR action anymore.

Q. Why not just add lots more powder and up the pressure then?
A. Because it is a .22 LR Rim-Fire.
More powder & more pressure would blow the case rim out.

I have seen and shot only one .22LR that cycled rat shot. thisone was also meant to cycle .22LR, Long, and Shorts inter mixed. It also was not 100 percent reliable so I won't meantion it. It liked some ancient crimped shot loads I had best.

Them rifles ain't made any more or for a while. Got mine in 1967.

Oh, more crumudgeon points!

BTW Since the knee surgury I have been walking with a cane and wearing an honest to goodness hat rather than a ball cap. I believe those are crumudgeon point multipliers. Doc did warn its the sitting position rather than the kneel for me from now on.
