I'm going to be ordering some stuff for a friend at Sportsmanguide and he's already paying shipping, so i'm thinking about piggy-backing some AK ammo on this order. I normally use (and stash) Golden Tiger and Various Barnaul stuff, but they don't sell GT and the brown bear is more expensive. Anyway, the Military Classic is cheaper than the black box by a little bit, but is one more preferable to another, or should i avoid wolf altogether? Thanks for any info at all.....M.

Well, I'll jump in with my LIMITED knowledge!

I've used large quantities of WMC and WBB and as far as I can tell, there is little, if any difference performance wise. Perhaps there's some special difference that a more enlightened individual can point out, but at the range, they're 'pert 'n' 'ear the same! For what it's worth, I've got 500 rounds of the Brown Bear and it's my favorite by FAR! I can only improve groups marginally with hand loads...wish I could find more of it at reasonable prices. Oh, and I've had good luck with the Golden Tiger too! But the Wolf seems to be as reliable as any of them, if that helps!

i believe the difference is that the OLD wolf bb was lacquer coated, then they "improved" them by making them "polymer coated"

the mc is old style lacquer coating.

Thanks for the reply,Tele. I've been digging around some other forums, and found lots of info at the SKS board. Seems there've been tons of reported problems with wolf lately, the military classic in particular. Reckon i'll just order me another case O' golden tiger from ammo-connection or ammoman this week. They're $185-189 shipped.
P.S. I had a '82 tele, sunburst w/ maple fretboard that i bought new when i was stationed at camp pendleton in '83. I traded it a few years ago, wish i'd have kept it since i'm seeing them go for close to three grand !!!! :cuss:

fwiw, i have had zero issues with military classic, or black box, in my sks or ak. as a matter of fact the wolf black box 154gr sp's, are the most accurate surplus ammo that i have found.

I honestly can't tell the difference out of my Russian sks.

and really you probally won't unless you run your gun really hard and get it really hot. the laquer likes to get hot and "cake" on the weapon in the chamber, reciever and bolt and such, but just plinking and such will not cause much of an issue. the polymer is just as dirty but dosen't leave the laquer "caked" on when running and gunning hard. i have found that the polymer does seem to feed a little smoother though.

For WMC and WBB,
First thats Uly vs Tula, tula wins.

Then its crappy coating that rusts inside my climate controlled house vs good varnish that keeps for years, the varnish wins.

But the Ulyanovosk has more FTF/"dud's"

Both are the dirtiest and most inaccurate 7.x2x39 availible.

It's now a toss up, so do youself a big favor and go with Sadu, Barnual or Vympel.

PS. the Sadu made stuff is Hot-Shot, Vympel makes golden tiger, and well, Barnual makes barnual. Bear is a toss up between Uly and old style Laquered Barnual... How lucky do you feal?

And if you want the Best of the best, head over to samco global arms, they are now shipping Yugo M67 Igman marked in sealed cases, its pristine ammo and as accurate as laupa. (all copper/brass/lead) It's most all i shoot now that the big shippment cleared customs.

Wolf Military Classic hollow point rounds reliably frag in the target, the Wolf Black Box ones do not.

If you're considering one for something other than just plinking, get the MC hollow points.
