Hey everyone,

I am looking at getting back into knife making. I am hoping to combine hand forging and grinding methods. From some reading I have been doing a number of people seem to recomend the Bader BM2 belt sander. But I can't seem to find anyplace to purchase such a beast. Anyone have any ideas?

Do any other knife makers out there want to comment on their grinding rigs?

According to the makers around here the top grinder is a KMG (http://www.beaumontmetalworks.com/) from Beaumont Metal Works.

Baders are in a lot of knifemaker's shops and are available from Texas Knifemaker's Supply (http://www.texasknife.com/store/s-pages/TKS_MainframeStore.htm?TKS_BaderBeltGrinder1.htm~smain).

Your name intrigues me as my last name is Llewellyn. :)

I have a Bader B3 and love it. KMG's are great, as are Hardcore and Dozier grinders. Rob Frink at Beaumont can set you up with a lot of neat stuff!

Pop's Knife Supply also sells Bader machines.

also try Pops Knife Supply...

just for reference , a variable speed Bader with a basic set up will run you around $1800 - $2000. If I can recall , my Bader 3 cost me right around $2200 with 8" contact wheel , 5" contact wheel , flat platen setup , spare tooling arms , and a fork tip setup with 3 different size wheels.
While variable speed is not 100 % needed , after you use it , you will not regret spending the $$$ for it.

You can get by with step pulleys though.

Give Rob Frink a call , he is a great guy to deal with , service after the fact has him at the top of the recommended lists !!

The KMG is an equal to the Bader in my opinion .
