Hello. I'm trying to find some help with my Walther P1 pistol. The extractor on my P1 does not work and I would like to replace the unit. I guess my question is how tough of a job is this? Can anybody offer any advice? I haven't yet been able to find a website that shows how to go about the replacement of an extractor assembly.

thanks

Before disassembling things, it is possible that the extractor spring or plunger is just gummed up. I suggest spraying in there with something like G96 Gun Treatment to see if you can dissolve any crud and free things up.

If that fails, look at the extractor cut and you will see it has a little "tail" cut extending backward. Take VERY small screwdriver or similar tool and insert it between the extractor and the extractor plunger, then push the plunger backward into that "tail". Hold it there and you should be able to lift the extractor out.

To replace, first clean out the hole. Then insert the spring and plunger (watch how the plunger mates to the extractor), and use the extractor itself to push the plunger and spring back until the "foot" on the extractor drops into the hole for it.

NOTE: The tool can slip and scratch the slide in doing this if you are not careful, which is why you shouldn't try it except as a last resort.

Thanks, Jim. I will try cleaning it out good before I attempt to remove it.

Thanks again, Frank
