I was in a gun store yesterday and someone was selling USGI OEM mags for the 1911 model (standard 7 rounders). I know that some people at the AR15 forum like USGI mags for their ARs, but what about for the 1911?

Are these any good?

Word is they're good! I haven't use any myself, as I like the Chip McCormick 8rd Shooting Star mags.

If they are cheap, get 'em!

I have several (via Ammoman). I got them to match up with my Sistema.
They work.

MAKE SURE they're genuine USGI mags (drawing number on the bottom). If not they're most likely aftermarket junk.

have always worked very well for me. However, I would recommend replacing the springs with a high quality commercial brand.

I have a batch of USGI mags dated 1992. They work without any hitches.

I have several (via Ammoman). I have the same mags, from the same vendor.

I havent tried any JHPs, but with 230gr FMJs thay work flawlessly in my Colt 1991A1 and Para C7.45LDA (i cant just slam them in the para, lol).

I have heard stories of the bottom popping off of GI mags when theyre used quite a bit, but Ive never seen it happen or have it happen to me.

IMO the old saying "you get what you pay for" doesnt apply. For ~$8 you get a hell of a mag, I plan on ordering more.
