I want to update my trigger on my Rem. 700 in .30-06 for deer hunting. I know Remington is buying out Marlin but I love there new Pro-Trigger feature. Is there any aftermarket trigger on the market like that now? What trigger would you all suggest for the Model 700.

I don't think Remington's purchase of Marlin will affect the triggers.

The 700's original trigger was designed for hunting, not bench shooting, and it's a very good hunting trigger if adjusted correctly. Try for 3 lb.s or so, with just a touch of creep and over travel for safety on a cold morning in the excitment of seeing a deer. I'd set mine up that way even if I had a Jewel trigger.

If you don't know how to make those adjusments take it to a gunsmith. Won't take him much time and the cost to you should be minimal.

In the opinion of many, and I fully concur, the trigger is the Rem. 700 weak point, figuratively. Technically, it can be adjusted, but it is never good. The best approach, and really quite economical, is to replace it with a Timney. I've probably put in 50 of them, and never, never found anyone dissatisfied. As I said, I've put in a bunch, but it is so simple, there really is no reason to pay someone to do it. Try it, you'll like it. Best thing you can do to a 700.

just my 2 cents....
I know most of the people on this site would disagree with me but.. I find the trigger job to be a waste of time for what I assume your purpose is for the rifle. From the calibur I'm guessing that this rifle is for big game hunting. Remington has spent a lot of time and money developing the 700 line for just that purpose. I would leave it the way it is. Your money might be better spent buying a shooting stick or bipod.

I agree with gb0399. I don't think the Remington triggers are so bad, and as stated earlier, they can be easily lightened up and adjusted with a little online research.

However, since I've started reloading, and therefore shooting my rifles much more I've found that
1) I like my rifle triggers to be about 2lbs
2)Remington factory triggers are not able to be adjusted to less than 3.5lbs. At least I couldn't do it.
3)Rifle Basix are much less than Timney and I have 2 installed in both of my 700s and I have no complaints whatsoever about them. So if you have a little extra $.

I actually do not mind the trigger. I adjusted mine to 4 pounds and it shoots fine. I am not target shooting or trying to impress the world with impressive shots. I use my rifle for hunting and having fun. If you a BR shooter, then think about replacing it. If your life is depending on it, then you might want to consider a trigger job or a new one. Your call..
