Anyone have an easy way of taking fired cases from the clips?

Thanks,

Turk

Take a half inch copper or steel pipe about 8-10 inches long. Cut a section out of one end about 3/8 deep about half of the diameter, check fit with a moon full of brass.
To use, put a fired case inside tube, twist tube and the notched section will lever out the fired case from the clip.
Some people use a old golf club shaft, the steel holds up better then copper.
Hold the tube over a container or baggy and the cases will slide into what ever container you hold empty fired brass in.

Check Brownells at this link:

or TK Custom Gunsmithing at this link:

Both sell mooners and demooners of various types and quality. I opted for the metal style rather than the plastic/ nylon versions because I believed the aluminum would outlast the plastic.

I bought the "Moonsetter" because the design was based on the tried and true standard plyers and the mandral can be changed to fit many calibers and 5/6/ or 8 shot cylinders.
After using both the "Moonsetter" and the "Super Demooner" for about 4 weeks I can at least attest that they are both well made and do the job for which they were designed and do so very efficiently or in more basic terms "way easy".
I hope this helps you further your enjoyment of moonclip shooting.

As an aside, my next project is to "open up" the cylinder on my SW 625 to more easily receive the loaded moonclips. The story is that the standard SW625 have not received the "Jerry Miculeck gunsmith treatment" at the factory and thus do not load quickly and easily as one would hope. After speaking with Gemni Gunsmithing I learned that they chamfer each cylinder opening 30 thousands after which one can almost "throw" the loaded moonclips at the cylinder and they will go in and fully seat. They quoted 120.00 for this service.

For just range plinking, you can't beat Rimz!

No good at all for duty or pocket carry, but they sure are great for killing beer cans & paper targets!

For years I used a length of 3/8 inch hardwood dowel - insert into the spent case and push straight out - worked fine and I thought that was all I needed. A few months ago I bought a de-mooner and man, what an improvement.

I bought the cheaper of the 2 available, I think about $19 and it was worth every penny. I also bought a pack of the plastic moons and I do not like them at all! They are made so that you can only load one way which means you cannot rotate the side to prevent twisting. They are slow to insert into the gun as the plastic does not hold the bullets straight.

You may find, however, that you like them.
