Mini-30 scope ring (mis)alignment

When I tighten up the lower 1" rings on my Mini-30 and lay the scope in them, the bore sighting reticle tells me than the windage is off by 45 MOA. This seems excessive. The scope is at mechanical zero.
Ruger says to send them the rings or the whole gun.
You can't shim the windage on the Ruger mount, with their odd crescent-shaped claws. And Ruger says I shouldn't have to.
I was planning on lapping the rings, but I don't think I should have to lap them 'crosswise,' in order to correct such a gross misalignment.
Anyone have any advice before I pack everything up?

Send it to Ruger... they do good warranty work, and if it's out of warranty but is a defect in the gun, they'll probably fix it for free anyway. Why mess with something they'll fix for you?

The barrel on my Mini-14 is visibly out of alignment with the receiver, sideways. Pop the handguard off and see if you see the same thing (then let Ruger deal with it).

Have you jiggled the base screws to get them to align right?? A lot of times you need to loosen the screws and jiggle things into place with the Ruger system.-----see if that works for you. If not---ship it all back and let them deal with it.

Millet makes steel Ruger rings that are adjustable for windage. I've installed them on Mini's and they work great. On the other hand, what's the point in having a sighting device of any kind on a Mini? ;)
