I'm a newbie just starting up the shotgun learning curve. So far I have mostly shot (12 gauge) 7/8 ounce loads of #8 shot practicing skeet and the gun seems to shoot basically to POA at 25 yards according to the patterning I've done.

What I don't understand is how it is possible to use the same bead to shoot all of the different loads? If you shoot buckshot, slugs and birdshot through the same gun do you just learn to use Kentucky windage to make the necessary adjustments?

While different loads impact to different points, for our purposes the points overlap out to say, 25 yards. Slugs oft shoot high compared to shot loads, and Ky elevations needs to be applied.

Most folks can make slugs and a bead sighted shotgun work out to 50 yards. Some further.

Good choice for starter ammo. Walk before running and have fun...

If you have a vent rib on your shotgun you might think about getting a center target bead installed, it will help make sighting easier.

My bead sighted Mossberg works like Dave says. The "high" POI of slugs wanes away at 75 yds and at 100 yds I have to hold high on the target. My low-recoil Remmington slugs have a graph on the box that shows a ** 5-inch ** drop at 100 yds! Having to hold that high sorta reminds me of the olden days shooting 81mm mortars .
