Went to Wally World, all of the 9mm and .40 S&W bulk ammo was SOLD OUT! drove over to Dick's Sporting Goods. All of the bulk 9mm and .40 S&W ammo was SOLD OUT! The counter person said that it was just pistol ammo that there was a run on.... Maybe the start of an ammo panic?

None that I see. Walmart here has all sorts of ammo, from cheap to premium, in many calibers.

But they're out of MiniMags. I bought 5k rounds. :D

They were loading up the cabinet at mine with 3 or 4 cases of WWB 9mm 100 packs Friday night---I bought 2 100 pks---not cheap though--- were over $15 each.

I about bought the two local Wal Marts out of Remington 22LRHP, but they only had 4 and 8 550 RD boxes.
I'll check tomorrow and if they have any more and the price is still $12.32/550I'll clean them out.
I have to stock up, I'm down to the last brick of Remington I stocked up on in 1993.:)

I don't need any store bought centerfire ammo, I load my own (cheap).

Something is going on.

I went to an indoor pistol range this weekend. Guy running the place said it's never been busier. About a 45 minute wait to get a lane in a 25 lane range. There must have been 50 people milling around.

All the CCW instructors I know have all their classes booked for several months out.

The ammo shop I frequent only had 1 box of Cor-bon pow-r-ball in .45 but they wouldn't sell it to me because a customer had called requesting they hold it for him.

Oh, and they're just breaking ground on a new $4 million indoor range themselves.

Yup. Something is going on. Any ideas?

I don't think its a run on ammo. I think Wally World doesn't stock that much, indoor ranges are nice dry warm winter fun, and various types of ammo can dry up regionally. I remember a few years back I couldn't find ANY 7.62X39 within 20miles for any price. Shop got in 20 cases and refused to sell me any more than half a case because they didn't know when they'd get more in. Probably the same type of thing. I'm not panicking.

Seems that way. When i went to apply for my CCW from the probate court last week, the clerk remarked that it had been abnormally hectic. By the time I left there were several people in line, all for firearm licenses, and I ended up waiting a bit for fingerprinting at the sheriff's.

DON'T PANIC!-Douglas Adams

Yes, there is a tremor. It's the econony, the election, the time of year, the war--the weather.

The news said that today is 'Blue Monday'; the third monday in January on which the most number of suicides for the year is usually recorded.

Buying ammo makes me feel better-like buying shoes does for some people.

I don't know--I bought ammo and ordered some spare parts this weeked.

The gun show in Iowa was crowded.

Well wally world raised the price of 22lr Federal hp from just under ten to just under 12. 20% is a big enough raise to make you pucker. They still haven't raised the wwb 9s yet, still $15.74 in my area.

I haven't been able to find any good deals on 5.56 or .223 for 4 months. Guess I can just wait till the next show, since no one in this town has any normal deals on ammo. I refuse to pay $17 a box for 55gr FMJ. I would pay $300 for a 1000.

Wow, somebody goes to Walmart and finds the ammo stock to be low and is concerned that this might be the start of an ammo panic?

I have been to Walmart when they were nearly out of chocolate milk, but the notion of there being a chocolate milk panic never crossed my mind.

Obama or Clinton White House.
Just joshing.I think.

Not joshing. And I'm sure.

I think you are giving Americans more credit than they deserve. There isn't any realistic way to believe that the possibility of a democrat in the White House in 11 months has started a buying panic for pistol ammo right now. As a whole, Americans simply don't prepare that well. Besides, it isn't the ammo that would be in jeopardy. It would be higher capacity magazines and gear previously covered on the AWB. Notice, there isn't a big run on these right now.

If there was to be an ammo panic, then I would expect it to be either just prior or after the election and/or just prior or just after the inauguration.

I went to an indoor pistol range this weekend. Guy running the place said it's never been busier. About a 45 minute wait to get a lane in a 25 lane range. There must have been 50 people milling around.

All the CCW instructors I know have all their classes booked for several months out.

Being busy at the range certainly would not be in anticipation of a democrat in the White House. Neither would booked CCW classes.

At least here in North Texas, I haven't had any problems finding pistol ammo at all. As for the CHL instructors I know, they are busy, but no more so than at this time in previous years.

I haven't been able to find any good deals on 5.56 or .223 for 4 months.
No doubt that ammo supplies are not what they have been prior to the current military action, but that is because so much of the production is going into military needs, especially 5.56/.223.

I went to Academy here on Galveston on Sunday - plenty of ammo of all varieties. Good supply of Monarch which is usually cheaper then WWB and good to plink with (at least their 9mm and .38 stuff is).

Besides, no self-respecting store in texas would ever allows its ammo (pistol or otherwise) shelves to be depleted

I heard all this talk of an ammo shortage, so I jumped up, put on my shoes, grabbed my keys and ran down to my ammo stash.

Whew, it's all still there.

Need to order another 10K primers and some M80 projos soon though.

It will be PRIMERS before it will be finished ammo. Mark my words. Like in 1992 :neener:

Cheap(er) .223 is out of stock everywhere here, and mail order for that matter.

I can only find the "primo" $$$ stuff.

Even Wolf is hard to find.

There's a chocolate milk shortage ?!?!?!

[sound of squealing tires as the scoutmobile heads off to the grocery store]

There's been a shortage of primers (at least at the local Gander Mountain), so I stock up when I'm there and when I'm at gunshows.

There is nothing to worry about and no reason for panic.

I know that because Josh Sugarmann of the Violence Policy Center has said that interest in firearms and shooting has declined in this country.

Josh Sugarmann and the VPC know things the rest of us don't. I believe everything he says.

Face it, most WalMarts don't stock ammo very deeply. Around any Holiday where folks have time off to shoot they end up low or out of popular calibers and the lowest priced ammo.

Range was surprisingly crowded yesterday for the MLK Holiday despite the cold (for Houston) and constant drizzle -- I expected to be the only one there ;)

I never make a trip to WalMart for ammo, just not enough of a sure thing to be worth it. I do stock up if they have what I need when my wife drags me there to stock up on cat litter -- she gets 200lbs at a time, I'm there to carry the load.

Stacked up pretty tall at my local Wal Mart, no run on things here.....

And frankly I'm not using Wal Mart as a judge of that kind of thing since they are the masters of something called
"just in time" stocking. In other words, their estimation of how things sell is so very accurate they rarely have a LOT of anything or NONE of anything. If they do it's just a blip on the graph. Over a 1 year period they are VERY good at keeping just enough stock on the shelf to meet the demand.

Just in time inventory? Surely you jest. Wal-Mart, the CFR and the Possum People who live in the trees in my backyard are in a cahoots to poison our bodily fluids.

It seems every year at this exact time of year that somehow, and this is where you really have to wonder about the Possum People and their Weather Control technology from Haliburton, it gets cold. This Global Coldening may keep shooters off the range and thus vendors may not vend as much in the ammo department and thus may not order as much. However, this Global Coldening is an illusion because all the television shows set in Southern California show that it is warm and sunny all year round.

We are through the looking glass, people.
