Move out, or (this is probably better) get one of those little quick-open gun safes.

Take this for what it's worth.

I have two children, older than you by a few years, and I would trust neither of them with a pistol in the situation that you describe.

Compromise, and get some sort of a quick access lock-box. Here: http://www.gunvault.com/handgunsafesminivaultstandard/ Buy the Deluxe model, and show you care about their feelings.

I really thought about one of those safes, if I do that I could keep one in the chamber too. Put a simple little 3 or 4 digit code I can't forget on it.

I think you should move out of moms house and do what you want with YOUR guns in YOUR house.

Until then do as they say.

And no, I dont think its a good idea to leave your loaded gun "visible" when little kids come around. That is as stupid as it gets IMHO. Kids cant be trusted to that point. It should be locked up....in fact, that may very well be the law if its not in your direct possession. Mine is 6ft from my bed in a gun vault. I want to wake up before I start shooting anyhow....

again, their house, their rules....dont like it? move your arse out! - until then your arguement holds no water.

my HD gun sits in a key lock mini lock box, with either a full cylinder, or a 1911 with a full mag and an empty chamber.

the key is hidden in some modern art, easily accessable in the same room.

CTPistol, I don't keep the firearm loaded. The gun is completely unloaded, boxes of ammo locked in the garage, and the one loaded magazine is extremely well hidden.

EDIT:Also, the little kids aren't always running around. They come over twice a month and we know about this event a week in advanced. The pistol would be locked up by time they got here, kids do not live in the home.

extremely well hidden near the gun?

if not whats the point of even owning that gun?

anyhow....just my .02....you need to rethink your strategy a bit with kids and in moms house..kids can find "well hidden" very very fast.

a simple gun vault makes a big difference!

good luck.

Uh, Ruck, his house, his rules, and an unsecured firearm with a loaded magazine, also unsecured and in a drawer nearby, is just an accident waiting to happen. It doesn't matter that you consider yourself that much more proficient or knowledgeable. Everything that I own is either locked up, on my belt, getting cleaned, in my hands, going to, at, or on the way back from the 'smiths, or over my shoulder/cradled in my arms. No exceptions.

EDIT: Oops, just noticed I was given a link to a pretty cool looking safe. Will the Mini-Standard hold a full sized handgun? They seem to advertise it as otherwise, if someone has one please tell me what you think.

Also, no need for the aggravation I'm detecting in your posts. I never said I AM doing something or not doing something, this is why I came to you guys (most of you are fathers and mothers) for your honest opinions. Most people my age would neglect their parents wishes, so at least give me SOME credit.

The one that I pointed out to you (the deluxe one) has both DC and AC power, as well as a key.

Here's one on eBay that includes the AC adapter: http://cgi.ebay.com/GUNVAULT-GV1000-DLX-DELUXE-MINIVAULT-GUN-SAFE-VAULT_W0QQitemZ270204090588QQihZ017QQcategoryZ52501QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Their house, their rules. If you don't agree then move out.

"Their house, their rules. If you don't agree then move out."

Little late there on the flame bud, the helpful forum goers have already helped me come to a conclusion, thanks though.

I have the MiniVault also for my full size Glock 35 and I can put my G23 in there also.

But just be aware that it's not fireproof.

The scenario as you describe it is creating way more potential for harm than it is preventing.

And, as others have said.... your parents' home - your parents' rules.

I thought the laws for pistol ownership was 21 years old? Maybe I don't need to ask.

I feel for you Ruckus. I'm moving in with my mother for a few weeks while I finish up the last of my degree requirements. I'm 26, and she's not okay with having loaded firearms in her house. Her house, her rules. You may not agree with it, but that's the way it is. ;)

If your parents are okay with you keeping it in a quick access safe like the gun vaults shown, do that. Even if little kids aren't going to be around, it's a bad idea to leave a loaded weapon unlocked. What if someone breaks in when you're not home, now they have a loaded firearm.

I was going to rant about the kids and a loaded, albeit "hidden" firearm being in the house. But I think that's been covered enough.

Seriously though, its cheap and "safe" insurance. Why would you NOT want to?

Besides, you're 20, move out of your house and get a place.:neener:

It's 18.

Lighten up a little. As for living with your parents, you are/were complaining that they are not "enlightened" and you were upset with thier rules. If you don't like them... well, you know what to do.

Put the gun IN the nightstand or somewhere out of view, loaded, cocked and locked, and tell them you lock it up from now on.

I thought the laws for pistol ownership was 21 years old? Maybe I don't need to ask.

21 to purchase from an FFL dealer, 18 to own one (buying from a private seller). Some states even allow CCW at 18.
