Hi some years ago I went to an old gun person going out of bizz I was looking for a 375 HH to go to white swan. He did not have one but said he had a gun for some years that no one would buy , no one wants a Elephant gun , it was a Rem 458 tag was 1500.00. As he has all the guns at home he said i will give you one hell of a deal, $ 800.00 , I tried the action on the gun, man it was slick as white ligthing and the trigger was well , better then some verman guns on the extractor side it has REP 14 can any one tell me about this gun.

It's probably one of the Model 700 guns like the Safari Grade, Custom KS Safari Grade (synthetic stock) or African Big Game (brown laminate stock).

There's a slim chance it's a Model 725 Kodiak. They only made 24 in .458 in 1961. And 28 in .375.

Are there any other markings on the rifle?

John

Hi john its not a syn or lam stock and on the other side of the barrel it has a funny x or n and then a oh on it near the action.

I have a .458 that has a cracked stock, i took it to a gun smith and he said for the money it would take to repair it i could buy a new one. I looked on the net and a new one is around 1500. I think its one of the first because this was a common problem in the early days, it is stamped bnp i couldn't find anything about it? is it worth getting fixed or should i just keep it as is. my grandfather gave it to me. thanks joe
