For home defense purposes:

I have a M&P 9mm w/ regular sights I will be using as my home defense pistol. I want to get some accessories that will make the gun a little more usefull at night. Please hit the poll above and tell me your thoughts on the best night setup.

Laser, Hand flashlight, Nightsites, and a cell phone. Just remember when you have a flashlight mounted to a firearm what ever you light up the weapon is pointed at it this includes loved ones, pets, friends, and a lot of other stuff you might not want to kill or destroy.
I did not do the poll because the above was not on it.

I don't know what the "best" is but I have an Insight X2 laser/ light on my SA XD9 that resides on my night stand.

night sights with a rail mounted flashlight and a hand held flashlight for back up. as far as night sights there are no better for defense IMHO than the xs 24/7 night sights. as far as a flashlight rail mounted check out the tlr1's and the m3, nd m3x's also sure fire's are nice.

I use an M&P40 with a TLR-2.

I plan on putting a set of night sights on it when I get some extra change.

I also keep a Fenix L2D flashlight and a Streamlight Stinger beside the bed.

Lot's of practice and confidence in your shooting and a solid HD plan.
No silly gizmos will save your butt. Only your brain and training.

How bout all three? Night sights with weapon mounted light and a off-hand flashlight too.

In my opinion, a quality laser or light is not a "silly gizmo", it is a tool to help you perform well used along-side the practice and confidence. You can have all the training in the world, if you can't see what your shooting at your gun is either useless or extremely dangerous (stray bullets). If you are putting high end mil-spec equipment in the "silly gizmo" category, you might as well put your handgun in that category too. They are all tools, make sure you have the right one for the job.

I would say a shotgun.

But since it wasn't on the list, I voted for a rail attached light and laser combination. I would also recommend an off hand light as well.

Notice I stated it was my home defense "pistol". I have my 870 and AR-15 loaded and waiting in my safe in the closet... the M&P is just gonna get me there.
