I have a cva bobcat I cut down to 16.5 or so inches and am about ready ta get out n shoot it. A friend gave it to me and it was rough but cleaned up. I could not help myself ;) I figure it will be a great close cover brush/woods carbine. I am not planning on "mega loads" but the normal 70-80 grain powder r/b or m/b I normally shoot. I will clean it up a tad more if the experiment works. I guess we will see...

I have a Numrich H&A Buggy rifle in .45 caliber that has a 20 inch barrel.
I don't load it up very hot because it loses it's accuracy and I only shoot it at short range.
Now if it was a blunderbus or a smoothbore, then load it up with shot, buckshot, rock salt or whatever and blast away and spread the pattern out! :)

“Anyone shoot short barreled rifles in BP?”

Yes, I shoot short rifles, shot guns and pistols with shoulder stocks. I also shoot the long ones.

Good luck with it, have fun, be safe.

I have an old cva hawkins .54 I cut down to 17" it will do 2" groups@50 yards
When i find a t/c hawkins cheap I'm going to cut it to 14" muzzle loaders dont't fall under the 16" rule for a rifle but I don't know how the dnr looks at them for hunting

Plumberroy, that is one of the reasons why I decided on a rifle legal length vs the shorter. Like you I want a cheap tc for such a use and may cut this one further after that ;)

Wow that looks pretty good a lot better than what i thought it would look like. you just need to shorten up that ram rod.

No worries scrat- I broke the ramrod :D I was movin around in the shop and ... well it was attacked by a piece of steel that decided to fall into the same area it was in... I want to add a rib on the bottom too to reduce the space between it n the barrell. I will wait till I shoot it a bit before investin much more time

I've got a Lyman Deerstalker with a 24" barrel, not exactly short, but a very handy length.

Last blackpowder shoot we had at our club, I put 5 shots onto 5 playing cards (one on each - made the royal flush) at 60 yards.
